Geeveston Community Centre is one of 35 Neighbourhood Houses around Tasmania offering accessible, locally driven programs in response to community needs. Improving people's lives though the provision of quality opportunities for well-being, learning, growth and support.

We are seeking a Community Development Officer to join our team. 

KEY OBJECTIVES

The Community Development Officer plays a central role in strengthening community participation, building local capacity and supporting community-led initiatives within the Geeveston region. Working alongside individuals, families, volunteers, community groups and partner organisations, you'll help identify local priorities, foster meaningful connections and turn ideas into action.

The role focuses on empowering people to lead and participate in initiatives that improve community wellbeing, while also coordinating and delivering programs where needed to respond to identified community needs. You'll build strong partnerships, support community participation and contribute to creating an inclusive, connected and resilient community.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE TO:

  • Build Community Capacity: Work alongside community members, volunteers and local groups to identify strengths, develop ideas and support community-led initiatives that build connection, resilience and participation.
  • Develop Volunteer Leadership: Recruit, mentor and support volunteers, creating opportunities for them to build confidence, develop leadership skills and progressively lead community initiatives.
  • Facilitate Community Engagement: Lead community conversations, consultation and co-design activities that ensure local people have a genuine voice in shaping programs and responding to community needs.
  • Build Partnerships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with local organisations, community groups and government agencies to strengthen collaboration and maximise outcomes for the Huon Valley community.
  • Measure and Demonstrate Impact: Collect evidence, evaluate outcomes and contribute to reporting that demonstrates the positive impact of community development initiatives and supports continuous improvement.

ABOUT YOU

  • You have a well-developed understanding of the unique challenges and strengths of living and working in a rural community.
  • You're person-centred and innovative in your approach to engaging with diverse communities and facilitating positive outcomes.
  • You possess excellent written communication, reporting and presentation skills.
  • You have strong time management and organisational skills with the ability to manage own work flows in conjunction with colleagues.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office 365 and Google Workspace

This role is offered at SCHADS Level 5 and is offered on a permanent part time basis across 20 hours per week.
