Bargaining Specialist - Flexible Location

Finance Sector Union

The Finance Sector Union is people across the finance sector coming together to improve our lives. From bank tellers, to technology professionals in superannuation funds, we are a diverse Union fighting to make a better finance sector, and a better society.

Our industrial capability is a critical element of how we campaign and organise. We know that the law alone is not enough, we need to organise. Our Industrial team is focused on building power with members through organising around industrial issues.

The Bargaining Specialist is a key role in our Campaigning teams. Reporting to the National Management Committee, the Bargaining Specialist will work with campaign teams to negotiate agreements with members to build worker power.

Who You Are

  • Someone who gets organising, someone who knows what it means to work with members to build power.
  • You are a skilled industrial technician who is experienced in all processes relating to enterprise bargaining – you know the law and how to make it work for the benefit of our members.
  • You are passionate about social justice and union values and will work hard to make a difference to members’ lives.
  • You will be a key part of our industrial team where we will build a fighting culture where all of our work organises members.

Our Work

  • The core of this role is enterprise bargaining – you will manage the bargaining process from start to finish, often as part of a multi-disciplinary campaign team.
  • You will be responsible for the technical parts of the bargain including negotiating at the table alongside members, drafting clauses, and the agreement approval processes.
  • You will be comfortable and experienced running all types of bargaining disputes at the Fair Work Commission.
  • Our bargaining work will most often happen within a campaign context – this role will involve planning and executing organising campaigns around enterprise bargaining.
  • We are working to achieve the best possible agreements for our members, so this role will include researching cutting edge agreement provisions then including them in our agreements.
  • You need to be a great communicator, able to explain complex things simply, able to talk (and write!) to anyone.
  • You’ll be a resilient problem solver – our work is unpredictable, there can be big barriers, but you will need to use all of our available tools to work for great outcomes for members and never give up.
  • You will have organising at the core of everything we do – every member interaction, every bargain, is a chance to build power for our members. You will be a core part of building an organising culture within the Industrial team.

If you’re interested in joining our team, we would love to hear from you!
