The Project

In this voluntary role, you will work closely with the Founder and Managing Director, and Partnerships Manager as a Social Media Specialist, to lead the day-to-day delivery of The Footpath Library’s social media presence - creating compelling content, raising the profile of the work we do, and engaging with communities to ensure that every interaction reflects our values and our brand reputation.

We are a small, grassroots organisation and we need a social media specialist that can hit the ground running and manage our day-to-day social channels to grow and foster online communities to raise our profile and garner support for our cause.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working closely with internal stakeholder, create compelling content (copy, visuals and basic video) to suit the different channels
  • Manage day-to-day social media activity, including scheduling and publishing content across all channels
  • Execute and maintain the social content calendar, ensuring a mix of planned and responsive content
  • Ensure all content aligns with The Footpath Library’s brand guidelines
  • Monitor and manage social media communities, responding to comments where appropriate, and passing on any enquiries to the Managing Director
  • Monitor and report on social media performance on a monthly basis, providing key insights, and identifying areas for improvement
  • Track audience sentiment and identifying any issues, escalating risks or sensitive matters to the Managing Director
  • Undertake research to identify key influencers that would align with The Footpath Library and work in consult with the Managing Director and Partnerships Manager on proposals to partner with individuals and/or brands for mutual benefit

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in social media or digital communications (2-5 + yrs)
  • Excellent written communication skills with ability to develop engaging content
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with willingness to work as part of a small team
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to interpret data, identity insights and opportunities and communicate in reports and recommendations
  • Adhere to best practice social media guidelines and uphold the reputation of the brand

The Footpath Library has been providing people experiencing homelessness with access to books and reading, and safe spaces for social connection for more than 23 years. We operate mobile libraries across NSW, VIC and WA, and have recently launched a Children’sLiteracy Kit program, providing literacy kits to children experiencing homelessness and living temporarily in crisis accommodation, women’s shelters and refuges.
