Voluntary Treasurer and Board Member

Fitzroy Learning Network

Fitzroy Learning Network Inc. (FLN) is a not-for-profit organisation, affiliated Community Neighbourhood House Learning Centre and Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Since the mid-1980s FLN has provided a variety of highly regarded and valued programs and services to the community with a particular focus on newly arrived migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and young people. Our programs and services range from English language programs to teaching computer, craft and business leadership skills and providing individual support and advice services.

It is an exciting time for FLN. The next couple of years should see the development of new premises and we’re using this time and this opportunity to review how we best serve our community into the future. We’re therefore looking for a Treasurer who will help take these plans and strategy forwards.

Liaising closely with the CEO and Finance Officer, the Treasurer provides oversight of FLN's financial management, ensuring that the charity is working within regulatory and legal frameworks and to an agreed financial plan.

The role involves:

  • Overseeing the financial affairs of FLN to ensure they are legal, constitutional and within Australian accounting standards.
  • Ensuring that the Board maintains the degree of financial literacy necessary to conduct the business of FLN and bring to the attention of the Board any areas of financial risk.
  • Ensuring that an audit of the books is prepared each year and that the annual accounts are submitted to members at the Annual General Meeting.
  • With the CEO, and in partnership with the Board overseeing the production and regular review of FLN’s Budget and Business Plan.
  • Appraising the financial viability of plans, proposals and feasibility studies.
  • With the CEO, overseeing the organisation’s investment strategy.
  • Overseeing the CEO in ensuring FLN complies with all financial and tax regulations and fulfils the financial requirements of funding bodies and other contractual obligations.
  • Overseeing the CEO and Finance Officer in ensuring: the organisation’s financial management and control procedures are adequate; risk management strategies are in place; the development and implementation of financial management policies and procedures; adequacy of financial records; maintenance of the organisation’s asset register.
