FCAWA is seeking Expressions of Interest for suitable candidates for a vacant FCAWA non-financial counselling Board Position.

FCAWA is the professional association for financial counsellors in Western Australia. The Association supports our financial counsellors, financial counselling agencies and financial capability members.

We have an ordinary Board position available for a person with the appropriate experience to join the board that governs our Association. Ideally you will have a Law or Marketing background however anyone with experience in systems advocacy, government relations and/or Governance experience is encouraged to apply.

Our Board comprises of six elected financial counsellor members and three independent members, ensuring we have the necessary mix of industry and governance skills.

Financial counsellors assist financially vulnerable people. This includes those on benefits and pensions, low income, and people with high levels of debt.

The Association provides the professional development needed by financial counsellors to keep up with the latest developments in such areas as banking, utilities, debt collection and hardship policies and practice.

We also advocate directly to government and industry on behalf of the clients of financial counsellors.

The role of the Board is to govern FCAWA so that its mission is carried out effectively whilst acting ethically and prudently. We are registered with the Australian Charities and Not for profits Commission, operate within the law and the FCAWA constitution, meeting obligations contained in agreements with government and funders. We have a well-developed set of governance, management policies and a strategic plan. The Board is the link between the FCAWA membership and the organisation. It gets its authority from and is accountable to the FCAWA membership.

FCAWA employs an executive officer, full-time sector support officer, part-time senior policy officer and a part-time administrative/finance officer.

The Board meets 10 times per year, currently on the last Friday morning of the month. Board members are reimbursed for their expenses.
