Disability Services Australia (DSA) is a social enterprise supporting 3000 people with disabilities to develop the skills and capabilities they need to gain independence and participate in society while enabling opportunities for choice, inclusion, and achievement at home, in the community, through education and in employment. DSA employs more than 1,700 people, including a supported workforce of 500, across Metropolitan Sydney, the Hunter, Illawarra, Central West, Southern Highlands, and Southern Ranges of NSW.

Reporting to the EGM, Community and Home Living, the Divisional Director Youth Community (16-24) Lake Macquarie region will take a lead in developing a clear strategy for younger Australians living with a disability and will be responsible for DSA’s services in the Lake Macquarie region.

This role provides a wonderful opportunity for a contemporary and experienced people-focused leader to develop and deliver best-practice, participant-centred Supported Independent Living (SIL) services that reflect DSA’s vision, values, and strategy. Growing this segment is a key pillar of DSA’s 5-year strategy, and as a senior leader you will balance growth, innovation and commerciality of all programs linked to the Youth CHL market.

  • Lead the operations effectively with the customer at the heart of our mission.
  • Contribute to DSA’s Youth Strategy and its implementation.
  • Coach and support direct reports towards values-based leadership and sustainable business outcomes.
  • Work closely with the corporate services team and contribute to operational excellence.

The successful candidate will have a record of accomplishment in:

  • Having delivered strategic and operational excellence in complex service delivery across multiple business lines or locations
  • Leading change and building a strong, positive, and values-driven culture
  • Meeting regulatory requirements (the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework, the National Standards for Disability Services), managing risk and providing safe work environments
  • Managing a business to achieve financial sustainability.

The successful candidate will bring:

  • Extensive experience in leading the delivery of social or healthcare services, with a focus on growing programs for youth
  • Experience in related sectors (health, youth, disability)
  • A commitment to all participants to provide a safe home and every opportunity to realise their aspiration for independence.
  • Entrepreneurial drive and creativity to explore innovative approaches to enable the business to achieve its goals.
  • A skillset including strategic thinking, financial management, business development, and strategic partnerships.
  • A commitment to contribute to DSA’s work to benefit the communities it serves and the personal values that align to the organisation’s mission.

The role will be based at either DSA’s Kingsgrove office or in the Lake Macquarie region. Regular travel to and from these locations will be required given the role’s regional responsibility.
