FareShare rescues food that would otherwise go to waste and cooks it into nutritious meals for people in crisis. We run Australia's largest charity kitchens and our chefs oversee an army of volunteers to cook 40,000 meals every week. These meals are provided free of charge to over 300 charities via Foodbank Queensland.

Due to unprecedented need in the community we are scaling up our production and are seeking an experienced chef/cook to work in our large, high volume kitchen.

We are looking for a confident professional with strong communication and team working skills.

Your day will typically include

• Lead a kitchen of volunteers to prep tonnes of vegetables, meats and package thousands of meals
• Cooking 300 litres of high-quality nutritious casseroles and soups at a time
• Showcase FareShare to 20+ corporate volunteers to cook 1,000+ meals per shift
• Improvising recipes to produce high quality food from rescued ingredients
• Stock rotation

The ideal candidate for this role:

• Has demonstrated knowledge of food styles & dietary understanding
• Trade qualifications in cookery including a current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
• Genuinely enjoys working with and supervising volunteers from a wide variety of backgrounds and skill-sets
• Is prepared to be hands on, you will get your hands dirty
• Has the ability to work autonomously or as part of a team
• Must be physically fit to meet the demands of a high volume kitchen
• Is able to obtain a Working With Children Check (employee status)

Highly regarded:

• Demonstrated experience in high volume bratt pan & kettle cookery
• Understanding of cook chill processes
• Current knowledge of HACCAP laws and local & state health regulations

The position is full time with salary packaging provisions and requires some flexibility – your roster might include a mix of days, afternoons/evenings and the occasional Saturday. There are no split shifts.
