The Public Guardian can be appointed by a court or tribunal to make health and lifestyle decisions for people who are unable to on their own, or with support. These include decisions such as where a person might live, their medical and dental treatment, health care, and other services. It also provides information and support to private and enduring guardians, service providers and the wider community.
The Senior Guardian is responsible for delivering quality guardianship services to our customers. This role involves making decisions in line with policy and the Guardianship Act 1987 (NSW), maintaining accurate customer records, undertaking individual and systemic advocacy to achieve positive outcomes for our customers preparing accurate reports and recommendations to senior officers. You will supervise and assist Guardians by providing advice and direction in more complex cases and customer situations.
Additionally, you will ensure the exchange of information with represented people, family, and key stakeholders is accurate and timely and at all times compliant with relevant legislations. In this role you are also required to conduct visits to people represented by the Public Guardian in line with the Guardianship Standards.

You will be a passionate individual who champions and advocates for the rights of people with disability. Ideally, you will hold a degree in social, health, behavioural sciences or related discipline and have a good working understanding of relevant service systems such as the NDIS, aged care and mental health.
You will also have experience in working with stakeholders to identify key information and options to work towards positive outcomes for the customer.
Your excellent communication and collaboration skills will enable building strong relationships with a range of professionals, staff, families and carers, particularly in dealing with matters of a complex or sensitive nature.
Degree in social, health, behavioural sciences or related discipline or equivalent experience.
Available to travel throughout NSW.
