ABOUT THE ROLE

Environment Victoria is one of Australia’s leading not-for-profit environment groups, with a strong history of running strategic, dynamic, people-powered and successful campaigns to take action on climate change and improve environmental protections. Our campaigning is solutions-based, founded on research and aims to build enduring community power. Our team of about 20 staff is nimble, creative and fun.

We know that to prevent the worst impacts of climate change, we need to leave fossil fuels in the ground and shift to a clean energy economy. Victoria is making some great progress with some strong clean energy policies and new projects in the pipeline, but we still have three of the world’s dirtiest coal burning power stations producing most of Victoria’s energy. This needs to change.

Our community organising program is building a people-powered movement to create a faster and fairer transition from fossil fuels to clean energy, and to protect water and communities connected to Australia's largest river system. In 2021-22 we are coordinating exciting new training and leadership development opportunities across parts of the state most relevant to our campaign activities including the Latrobe Valley, Goulburn Valley and several other regional and metro locations.

The Community Organiser is a key role in our skilled and dynamic Community Organising team bringing energy, experience and strategic thinking to the roll out of our new Action Network organising structure.

If this sounds like you, please read the position description attached below for full details of the role.

The position is a parental leave replacement role for 9 months with the possibility of extension and the successful candidate would ideally commence in the final week of August 2021.

We strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples, people of colour, women, people with disability and members of the LGBTIQA+ community.
