About the role

Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, Governance and Strategy, the Senior Solicitor is a member of the Legal Branch, responsible for providing strategic legal advice, dispute management and litigation support, on commercial, contractual and regulatory issues relating to the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS). The position also requires agility to additionally undertake broader legal work as EPA’s demands and priorities require.

In this role you will:

• Provide strategic, high-quality legal advice across commercial and contract law, administrative law, governance, projects, litigation and dispute resolution, with a particular focus on the CDS and broader EPA priorities.
• Manage litigation and dispute matters, including instructing external legal providers and representing EPA interests across jurisdictions.
• Deliver responsive, strategic legal support and contribute to innovative tools and solutions that improve service delivery and streamline routine legal work.
• Identify and mitigate legal and project risks, working collaboratively across EPA to deliver practical, solution-focused advice on complex matters.
• Provide strategic advice on disputes, litigation and inquiries, developing effective legal strategies and briefing external counsel as required.

Skills and experience

• A relevant tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications in law.
• Admitted to practice as an Australian legal practitioner under the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Act 2014, ideally with a minimum of six (6) years legal practice experience.
• Demonstrated ability to perform and deliver, at a Senior Level, accurate, concise, clear and authoritative legal advice in core areas of commercial and contract matters and dispute resolution, together with a demonstrated ability to provide advice in administrative law, statutory interpretation, corporate governance and manage significant or high-profile litigation. Experience operating at a senior level in commercial and contract matters is mandatory and experience in all highly regarded. 
• Experience providing strategic legal advice to a contract management team, with a strong ability to build, influence and manage effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders to achieve organisational outcomes is highly regarded.
