Environs Kimberley as part of the Kimberley – Like Nowhere Else Alliance is looking for a part time Community Organiser who is passionate about the Kimberley’s nature and protecting our unique landscapes, culture, plants and animals including one of Australia's most important, free-flowing rivers – the Martuwarra Fitzroy River.
Environs Kimberley (EK) is the peak environmental NGO in the Kimberley. We are dedicated to preserving the health of the land and waters of the region through community campaigns, advocacy, and on-the-ground cultural and natural resource management projects.
Our purpose is to protect the nature of the Kimberley, with environmental and social sustainability as guiding principles.

THE ROLE
The Community Campaigner – Martuwarra Fitzroy River will work to build public support and engage with communities, support delivery of key local community events and individuals to increase political support with key decision makers to protect the Kimberley's Martuwarra Fitzroy River.
This contract will require a mix of work in the EK Office – as well as weekend work in the community at stalls, events and other on-ground activities. The role will report to the Executive Director Environs Kimberley and will work closely with the rest of the Kimberley Like Nowhere Else team to help deliver key components of the campaign strategy.
key responsibilities
- Engage with the community to demonstrate support for protection of the Kimberley and especially the Martuwarra Fitzroy River through actions such as signing postcard petitions during key submission period, this could also include writing letters, promoting and attending community events.
- Lead on booking, setting-up, running and pack-up of information stalls at markets, and other events to a professional standard.
- Assist with organising community events in target areas to engage supporters, including organising a local supporter workshop and promote the EK and Kimberley Like Nowhere Else key messages.
- Support, recruit and motivate volunteers who assist at information stalls, community events and office tasks.
- Self-directed and motivated work involving travel to key target locations in the Kimberley for community outreach events and workshops
- Ensure clear communication with the team regarding event success, stalls materials, new event opportunities, volunteer support and any enquiries that require follow-up.
- Assist with data management and supporter engagement across the Kimberley digital communication platforms including Nationbuilder, EDMs and social media content.

what we offer
- Base casual rate of $55.73 in loading, Saturday and Sunday rates apply.
- This is a short-term role from Monday 20 April until Friday 24 July.
- The role is based in Broome at the EK office. The role is part of a hybrid working model, with the ability to work from home on agreed days.
- Approximately 1.5 - 2 days a week would be at community events and stalls in Broome and the West Kimberley.
- The successful applicant will need a valid driver’s license – ability to get to community outreach locations with personal vehicle (fuel allowance provided) and budget provided for rental vehicle as required for trips outside of Broome.
