Ngaanyatjarra Health Service (NHS) provides services to communities across the Ngaanyatjarra region of Western Australia from their 11 Primary Health Care Centres, staffed by experienced Remote Area Nurses, Aboriginal Health Workers and allied health staff. With a focus on population health and preventative care, they also offer environmental health programs, health promotion, social and emotional wellbeing programs, and a range of healthy ageing and disability supports.
NHS is part of the wider Ngaanyatjarra Council Aboriginal Corporation (NCAC), which represents the interests of around 2000 Ngaanyatjarra, Pintupi and Pitjantjatjara people, living in 12 communities in the Central Desert region of Western Australia, providing reliable essential services, air transport, bookkeeping, agency and road transport, fuel distribution, health services, community services and improved housing.
Ngaanyatjarra Health Service now has multiple exciting opportunities for Registered Nurses to join their team as Primary Health Care Nurses. These are flexible full-time roles, with the option for a 6 weeks on/6 weeks off FIFO roster if preferred, or other arrangements negotiable depending on your availability and community needs.
As a Primary Health Care Nurse, you will be based in one of NHS' community health care centres, working with other health professions to provide comprehensive primary health care, and promote overall wellbeing and healthy lifestyles, whilst treating a range of acute presentations and emergency care needs. Other responsibilities include:
To be successful in these roles, you will be an AHPRA-recognised Registered Nurse with at least 5 years post-graduate experience in the delivery of comprehensive primary health care.
Importantly, you'll be a collaborative team player with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to adapt your communication style to work effectively with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds.
Any experience working in remote areas or with Aboriginal communities will be highly regarded, though not essential provided you have the confidence and resilience to work in an undeniably challenging environment. You will need to be highly flexible, comfortable handling environmental issues, such as heat, dust or dirt, and prepared to adapt to potentially confronting conditions or situations.
With a strong understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal health, you'll ideally have experience in or knowledge of the two-way approach model, able to embrace traditional knowledge and practice with evidence based scientific knowledge and practice.
Finally, you will be genuinely passionate about achieving positive outcomes for your clients. Highly empathetic and culturally competent; you’ll understand the needs and concerns of your clients, and have the strong interpersonal skills needed to build effective relationships with a variety of key stakeholders.
Please note: You will need a current, unrestricted Manual Driver's License, and be comfortable travelling to regional, remote and interstate locations using unsealed roads, by 4WD, or by light aircraft. You will also need to hold, or be willing to obtain, National Police Clearance and WA Working with Children Clearance.
This is a unique opportunity to experience parts of Australia that few people get to see, working with, supporting, and learning from remote communities in the heart of the outback.
You'll be joining a passionate and experienced team that offers ongoing training and education opportunities to help you grow your skills, including fantastic support from a dedicated Clinical Nurse Educator, to help you transition into the role.
In return for your hard work and dedication, you will be rewarded with a generous remuneration package starting from $121,252; commensurate with your skills and experience. You’ll also enjoy a range of additional benefits, including:
