EBL Disability Services Inc. trading as EllieB’s Disability Services is seeking the appointment of an experienced Chairperson to it's Board of Directors.

EllieB’s is a registered NDIS provider, profit-for-purpose organisation that has been around for over 45 years. We specialise in providing permanent and short term supported accommodation, respite, and day options services for people with a developmental disability.

Board Opportunity:

EllieB’s is seeking an experienced Chairperson to join our Board of Directors. We are looking to appoint a volunteer Chairperson to help us build on the success we have achieved as a registered NDIS Provider. We are a carer-led Board who values lived experience of disability and an understanding of the profit for purpose environment. We have established a group of paid Advisors who provide expert advice and guidance to the Board of Directors in relation to business, financial and legal matters as required. 

At its core, the board chair role oversees meetings and ensures all other board members are fulfilling expectations.

In particular, the following skills and experience are highly regarded: 

Experience

  • Board Member experience              
  • Not-for-profit experience
  • Lived experience of disability
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications

Knowledge of

  • The National Disability Insurance Scheme
  • Human Rights and Disability Legislation
  • Strategic Planning
  • Finance / Accounting / Business Management
  • Clinical Governance, Quality and Risk

Your Commitment:

Board meetings occur monthly on the last Tuesday of each month. The Board currently meets later in the afternoon, 11 times per year and the average meeting duration is approximately 2 hours. Reports and Agenda are emailed 7 days prior to each meeting. Participation is also required for annual strategic planning, AGM, and special projects from time to time. 

Attendance is preferably in person. However, we can accommodate attendance via video. We provide a laptop and @elliebs email for all Board members. 

Key Competencies and Skills:

  • Understanding of a Director’s ethical, legal and fiduciary responsibilities. 
  • Ability to contribute to the organisation’s strategic decisions. 
  • Ability to use various financial skills, including personal skills to monitor the organisation’s financial position.
  • Understanding of the level of compliance required for an employer with NFP status, and also for a registered NDIS provider.
  • Experience in identifying and mitigating areas of significant risk management.
