Environmental Defenders Office (EDO) is the largest environmental legal centre in the Australia-Pacific, dedicated to protecting our climate, communities and shared environment by providing access to justice, running ground-breaking litigation and leading law reform advocacy.

The opportunity:

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Media, you will play a pivotal role in growing EDO’s reach, influence and impact. You will lead the development and delivery of innovative audience acquisition, donor conversion and revenue-generating marketing initiatives, helping to build the support and resources that enable EDO to continue its critical work.

Key Responsibilities include:

The key responsibilities of the Marketing Manager include but are not limited to: 

  • Lead brand partnerships and supporter acquisition strategies that expand EDO’s brand recognition and grow income. 
  • Lead and deliver an events and/or activations program that expands on brand recognition and generates revenue. 
  • Identify and manage values-aligned influencer partnerships. 
  • Scope and deliver acquisition campaigns across digital and non-digital environments including on owned channels, that focus on building pipelines and attracting financial support. 
  • Scope and deliver expanded regular giving programs that acquire more donors and increase program income. 
  • Develop and deliver sales strategies. 
  • Collaborate across teams to identify and promote content and campaigns to relevant audiences. 
  • Stay across industry benchmarks, consumer trends, and emerging marketing channels; bring evidence-based ideas to the team. 

Key selection criteria:

Essential:  

  • Demonstrated senior-level experience (8+ years) in marketing, media, advertising, commercial partnerships or related fields, with a proven track record of developing strategic partnerships, driving revenue growth and delivering commercial outcomes.  
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver innovative marketing, audience growth and commercial strategies, identifying opportunities and translating them into measurable outcomes.  
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, relationship management and influencing skills, with experience building effective partnerships and working collaboratively with senior leaders, external partners, agencies and suppliers.  
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, multidisciplinary projects and managing multiple concurrent initiatives, balancing competing priorities while delivering high-quality outcomes.  
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital marketing and campaign performance, including paid digital channels, email marketing, CRM and marketing automation platforms, data analysis, KPI management and evidence-based decision-making, supported by highly developed communication skills and relevant tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Business or a related discipline. 

Desirable:  

  • Experience in or alongside the non-profit, social enterprise, or advocacy sector. 
  • Experience with brand partnerships, digital marketing, merchandise production, fulfilment logistics, or e-commerce. 
  • Knowledge of or genuine interest in environment, law, public participation and democratic engagement.

Vaccination Requirements

EDO does not have a vaccination mandate. EDO staff have the option to share vaccination details within the EDO HRIS system. EDO will maintain this record of vaccination status of EDO employees; however, if staff do not wish to disclose this information, it will not be enforced. 

Working with clients face-to-face:  

  • EDO works with diverse peoples and groups across the Australian and Pacific communities, including people who are considered a high-risk group in terms of COVID-19.  
  • In order to ensure the safety of all EDO employees and the people we work with and around, staff visiting overburdened communities are required to take a COVID-19 test three (3) days prior and on the day of travel to the overburdened community.
