Eating Disorders Families Australia (EDFA) is the only national organisation providing support, education, advocacy and counselling solely for carers and families impacted by an eating disorder. Supported by a highly engaged Board and driven by lived experience, EDFA is entering an exciting new phase of national growth and influence.

We are seeking a highly organised and values-driven Finance Manager to support the financial integrity, sustainability and operational effectiveness of the organisation during a 10-month fixed-term contract. Working closely with the Executive Director and leadership team, you will oversee EDFA’s day-to-day financial operations including bookkeeping, payroll, compliance, grant acquittals, reporting, budgeting and audit preparation.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a purpose-driven environment and takes pride in delivering accurate, reliable and high-quality financial management. You will play an important role in supporting organisational growth, strengthening systems and ensuring EDFA continues to operate with strong financial governance across a fully remote national organisation.

Duties:

Accounts Payable

  • Process, manage and track all Incoming Invoices to ensure timely payments.
  • Maintain accurate records of all payments and expenditures.
  • Reconcile accounts payable transactions and assist with accounts receivable processes.

Bookkeeping

  • Record and categorise all financial transactions in the accounting system.
  • Cost out all income and expenditure to appropriate grant funding/organisation program areas.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial reports and records.
  • Monitor bank accounts, reconcile statements, and manage cash flow.

Payroll

  • Process fortnightly payroll and salary packaging for employees and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and handle payroll-related enquiries.
  • Prepare and submit salary declarations of workers’ compensation insurances
  • Prepare and submit and quarterly portable leave submissions.

Financial Reporting

  • Complete month-end financial entries.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial statements and reports to management, including budget tracking and providing advice to management.
  • Lead budget preparation, financial forecasting, and cash flow management, as needed
  • Assist in EDFA’s Annual Report through the preparation of financial information.

Compliance

  • Ensure all financial practices align with EDFA policies, legislative requirements, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Prepare annual financial statements and lead annual audit in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards
  • Calculation, completion and submission of ATO activity statements.
  • Identify and report risks or Incidents Impacting financial and operational Integrity.

Grant Management and Acquittals

  • Monitor and track grant income and expenditure.
  • Provide financial reports and acquittal reports in line with grant requirements.
  • Assist in the development of grant applications and budgets.

Financial Leadership

  • Participate in and provide financial advice and reports to the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee’s quarterly meetings.
  • Participate in and provide financial advice and reports to Leadership Team’s fortnightly meetings.

Quality and Safety

  • Ensure all services and interactions adhere to best practice guidelines, professional standards, and EDFA’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality support to families.
  • Identify and report any risks or incidents that may impact the safety, wellbeing, or quality of services delivered to EDFA members.
  • Work within EDFA's Code of Conduct, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Commonwealth Child Safe Standards are adhered to by self and team.
  • Comply with Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) requirements for remote work and organisational operations.

Other Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of financial systems and processes to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Provide administrative support to the team when required.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Essential

  • Relevant accounting or finance qualifications (CPA, CA or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience in end-to-end financial management, reporting and compliance.
  • Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards and financial regulations.
  • Experience managing payroll, bookkeeping, budgeting, grant acquittals and audit preparation.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and time management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a fully remote environment.
  • Commitment to ethical financial management, confidentiality and EDFA’s mission and values.

Desirable

  • Lived experience as a family member or carer impacted by an eating disorder.
  • Experience working within the not-for-profit, health or mental health sector.
  • Experience managing grant funding and government acquittal processes.
  • Experience supporting Finance, Audit and Risk Committees or Boards.
  • Understanding of remote workforce operations and systems.
