The Organisation

ECLC is a multidisciplinary legal service that works to prevent problems, progress fair outcomes and support the wellbeing and resilience of communities and community members in Melbourne’s East.

Eastern Community Legal Centre responds to the legal and related needs of the communities across Melbourne's east, with a focus on those most vulnerable. Professional and innovative services are delivered from three offices and numerous outreach locations.

The HEAL Program

The HEAL team integrates a Community Lawyer and a Client Advocate within key partner agency locations, providing a service that responds to clients presenting with complex needs and experiencing systemic barriers to accessing services, particularly :

  • people who are homeless or experiencing housing and tenancy issues
  • people engaging with mental health or Alcohol and other drugs (AOD) services

About the role

As part of a multidisciplinary team comprising of a Community Lawyer and a Client Advocate, the Co-ordinator – HEAL will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the HEAL Program to meet the program objectives;
  • Supervise and support the HEAL team to deliver a legal program that responds to clients presenting with complex needs, experiencing systemic barriers to accessing services; and
  • Establish and maintain strategic and mutually beneficial relationships with program partners and key stakeholders.

Skills Required

You will have experience working with or within a multi-disciplinary environment, preferably within a legal setting, as well as knowledge or experience working in AOD, mental health and homelessness/housing and aligned service sectors. You will be a compassionate person who respects people, their circumstances and decisions and who is passionate about removing the systemic barriers that people experience in accessing services and engaging with the legal system. You will be able to effectively manage tasks and deadlines while maintaining a high degree of self-awareness, resilience and professionalism.

Specifically, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (including law, social work, health sciences)
  • Demonstrated experience working with or within a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Relevant experience in planning, co-ordinating and delivering services to people experiencing housing, homelessness, mental health and AOD need.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and liaise successfully with a diverse range of stakeholders in the community and government sectors at a senior level

This position is based at ECLC’s Boronia/Box Hill locations (and integrated outreach locations across Melbourne’s east) however, due to the current restrictions in place in Victoria, this role includes an initial working from home arrangement. Working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, you will be expected to have exceptional communication and the ability to build positive relationships to support your role.
