About the Business Unit:

Victims, Redress and System Reform. (VRSR) is part of the Police, Victims, Racing and Coordination Group within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). VRSR is responsible for the delivery and reform. of services to victims of crime, placing victims at the centre of the justice system. 

Among other services, VRSR delivers the Victims of Crime Helpline, Victims Register and statewide Victims Assistance Program, Restorative Justice for Victims of Crime, including the Family Violence Restorative Justice Service and Victim Support for Youth Justice Group Conferencing. VRSR is also responsible for delivering the Victorian Government participation in the National Redress Scheme, Historical Forced Adoption Redress Scheme and Restorative Engagement component of the HFA Scheme and Redress scheme for Victoria Police employees who have experienced workplace sex discrimination and/or sexual harassment.

About the Role:

The Historical Forced Adoption Redress Scheme is a Victorian government initiative offering one-off financial payments, counselling, and apologies to mothers forcibly separated from babies before 1990. The scheme recognizes the trauma caused by past practices that forcibly separated unmarried mothers from their children.  

The Senior Consultant role requires speaking with Historical Forced Adoption Redress Scheme participants in a sensitive and trauma-informed manner as well as dealing with material that can be challenging and distressing and will best suit a candidate who is resilient and empathetic.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Provide high-quality victim-centric case management to participants of the respective scheme and supporting them through the application process.
  • Work collaboratively with participants to develop support plans and assist them to navigate the schemes from initial engagement to transition and exiting.
  • Maintain and enhance practice consistency with a focus on continuous improvement.

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Significant experience in providing victim-centric case management to vulnerable individuals, with specialist knowledge in allied health, or working with victims of crime, abuse, sexual violence, and/or mental health.
  • Highly developed client engagement and case formulation skills, including excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly articulate policy framework for the scheme and the unique considerations of this cohort.
