PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and will play a pivotal role in driving process enhancements and financial support across the Organisation.

The position will be based in Darwin.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Accountabilities:

Provide financial services and advice to BAC divisions on behalf of Corporate Services in line with accounting standards and best practices.

  1. Responsibility for maintenance of the general ledger, including reconciliation of all Balance sheet accounts.
  2. Supervise the accounts receivable and payable officers and provide guidance and training to ensure task completion and acceptable performance.
  3. Responsible for completing and submitting all Australian Taxation office compliance obligations by the due date, including Business Activity Statements, Fuel Tax Credits, PAYG returns, Fringe Benefits Tax returns and any other regulatory obligations.
  4. Preparing financial reports for Board reporting, ORIC, Auditors, and other statutory bodies were directed and within capability.
  5. Oversee cash management activities and project cash flow.
  6. Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure robust financial management.
  7. Analysing and investigating variances; summarising data, information, and trends; and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  8. Preparing and assisting Auditors in meeting our financial obligations when required.
  9. Administer payments including artist payments, subcontractor payments, payroll and any other financial transactions where directed/required.
  10. Collate and prepare monthly, quarterly, yearly (and other) financial reporting requirements on behalf of the organisation.
  11. Any other duties requested by your supervisor which are within your capabilities.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Essential:

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Business, Finance, Commerce, or Accounting, or equivalent, which allow membership to the CPA or CA or completion of study towards these qualifications.
  2. Strong proficiency in XERO and Microsoft 365
  3. Over 3 years’ experience or more in a similar role.
  4. Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with various key stakeholders.
  5. Strong analytical skills with an ability to communicate financial information to various audiences.
  6. Ability to be proactive and embed best practice approaches within areas of responsibility.
  7. Knowledge of current taxation legislation and ability to undertake compliance functions.
  8. Experience or knowledge of working in a remote aboriginal community environment, with knowledge and understanding of aboriginal protocol and culture.
  9. Experience working for a community development or not-for-profit organisation.
  10. National Police Clearance and Working with Children Clearance

Remuneration:

Bawinanga is offering an attractive remuneration package to the right person.
