This is an exciting opportunity to join the DCA team as a Media Manager. Reporting to the Director, Communications and Advocacy, the Media Manager is responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing DCA media plans and strategies.
  • Responding to media enquiries, including researching information and providing a timely and considered response.
  • Providing high-level media advice and briefings to senior management.
  • Quickly synthesising complex information into media releases and messaging.
  • Predicting and managing complex media issues.
  • Contributing to editorial content and opinion pieces
  • Assisting in delivering an out-of-hours media service that includes on-call duties on weekends and public holidays.
  • Working collaboratively with the DCA team to ensure all media and communications activity is grounded in research and evidence and evaluated through effective tracking and measurement.
  • Developing and nurturing relationships between DCA and targeted media outlets and journalists.

Flexible full time role reporting to the Sydney based Communications & Advocacy Director.

This is a 12-month contract with a view to permanency.

The successful candidate must have:

  1. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience in writing content that communicates complex issues in an accessible way, is succinct, engaging and meets the needs and understanding of the intended audience.
  2. A strong news sense and experience leveraging media relationships to promote DCA’s strategic priorities.
  3. Experience providing high-level media advice and briefings to senior management.
  4. Experience in developing and implementing media plans and strategies, including managing complex media issues.

The successful candidate must also model DCA values of inclusion, collaboration, adaptability, courage and integrity.

Subject matter expertise about diversity and inclusion in a workplace context will be highly regarded. As will an already established network of media connections.
