Non-Executive Directors (voluntary)

Directors Australia

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Queensland (RSPCA Qld) is the state’s oldest, largest and leading animal welfare charity, dedicated to improving the lives of all domestic, farmed and native animals throughout Queensland. The RSPCA Qld is the only charity with the power to prosecute animal cruelty and neglect.

Last year RSPCA Qld cared for over 52,000 animals and helped 16,472 animals find new homes. The Society is currently rehoming more animals than any other organisation in the Southern Hemisphere, and cares for displaced domestic pets as well as native wildlife patients in the Brisbane RSPCA Wildlife Hospital based at Wacol.

In addition to its caring functions, RSPCA Qld runs a number of enterprises including World for Pets, a leading online and Superstore retail business; School For Dogs; Pets at Rest cremations; Shelter Management, a software business that provides animal shelters globally with their database system. RSPCA QLD is also a founding shareholder of PetCloud, the pet sitting equivalent of ‘AirBnB’.

RSPCA Qld is governed by a board of non-executive directors. The board is seeking to recruit three new directors over the coming year to ensure that the board has the requisite collective skill set, as well as to enable orderly board succession planning.

Given RSPCA Qld’s nature, the board is seeking candidates who are committed to creating value and benefit for the community with the mission of: helping animals; enlightening people; and changing lives.

In addition, the successful candidates must be able to meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • High level networks across Government. The ability to advocate for RSPCA Qld with state government as the primary focus, and federal and local government also useful.
  • Animal welfare and/or veterinary services. Deep industry experience in areas such as animal ethics, behaviour, wildlife, research, vet sciences, animal welfare.
  • Technology, IT Governance. Experience in computer science and analytics, and cyber security.

It is desirable that the new directors also have board-level experience and a sound working knowledge of corporate governance systems and frameworks.

These are voluntary roles. The board is seeking Queensland-based directors.
