Curtin Student Guild is seeking an experienced and energetic Manager – Events to lead the delivery of engaging, inclusive, and high-impact campus events that foster connection, belonging, and student engagement.

About the role
Reporting to the General Manager Student Services, you will lead the Guild’s Student Events portfolio and oversee the planning, coordination, and delivery of a diverse annual calendar of events and engagement initiatives.
As a key member of the Student Services leadership team, you will contribute to organisational strategy, service innovation, and the ongoing development of a vibrant, inclusive, and student-focused campus culture.
This role combines strategic leadership with operational involvement, including on-the-ground event coordination, stakeholder engagement, team leadership, risk management, and continuous improvement across the Events portfolio.
What you’ll do
You will:
- Lead and manage the Events team, including staff, casual event crew, and volunteers
- Oversee the planning and delivery of a broad range of student events, activations, and engagement initiatives across campus
- Actively participate in operational event delivery, including setup, coordination, troubleshooting, supervision, and post-event evaluation
- Contribute to the strategic direction and continuous improvement of the Events portfolio in alignment with Guild objectives and student engagement priorities
- Support budget management, resource planning, reporting, and operational oversight for the department
- Develop strong working relationships with students, student representatives, university stakeholders, suppliers, contractors, and community partners
- Ensure all events are delivered safely and in accordance with relevant legislation, university requirements, and Guild policies
- Oversee event risk management processes, including risk assessments, event management plans, permits, and compliance requirements
- Coordinate external suppliers, vendors, entertainment providers, and service partners to support successful event delivery
- Monitor event participation, engagement trends, and student feedback to inform future planning and innovation
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive team culture focused on creativity, accountability, and student experience

skills and experience
Essential:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in event management, hospitality, communications, marketing, or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams in an events, hospitality, community engagement, or related environment
- Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver events of varying scale, including hands-on operational involvement
- Experience managing multiple projects, competing deadlines, and live event environments effectively
- Strong knowledge of event risk management, workplace health and safety obligations, and relevant compliance requirements
- Experience with budgeting, operational planning, and resource management
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
- Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to operational challenges during live events
- Proficiency with event management systems and administrative software
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and positive student experiences
Desirable:
- Experience working within a university, student services, membership-based, or not-for-profit environment
- Experience coordinating large-scale activations, festivals, or community events
- Knowledge of student engagement strategies and campus activation initiatives
- Experience in marketing, promotions, social media, or event communications
