The OOHC Therapeutic Support Contact Worker will be working directly with children and young people, in both general foster care and kinship care; supervising contact with birth family members

Job Description

In this role you will

  • Support, and supervise contact between children and young people and their birth families and/ or significant others
  • Support families during the supervised contacts including prompting and modelling parenting skills 
  • Accurately and reporting on visits with honesty and integrity in a timely manner in line with policies and procedures 
  • Transport children and young people and their carers to appointments
  • Ensure all records/case notes are accurate and maintained in line with service, legislative, and Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG) requirements, including the electronic casework system.
  • Record and discuss any concerns around child safety with a Caseworker and/or the Team Leader
  • Make “risk of significant harm’ reports to the Community Services Helpline when deemed necessary in consultation with the Team Leader or Manager.
  • Work Collaboratively with the OOHC Team
  • Ensure respectful Communication.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Maintain professional relationships at all times
  • Follow appropriate reporting lines
  • High integrity in all matters relating to the supervisor role
  • Perform other duties as requested by manager

Desired Skills and Experience

We are interested in people who have:

  • A minimum of TAFE qualification Certificate III (or equivalent) in a welfare-related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge, understanding and some experience of working with families with complex needs.
  • High conflict management skills and problem solving skills
  • Experience in working with of and ability to appropriately respond to the needs of people from all communities including Indigenous; Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD); and Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT).
  • An strong understanding of child protection and child development
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands and meeting deadlines while working independently.
  • Strong Computer literacy and experience with Microsoft 365 and Teams
  • Possession of a current driver’s licence and Working with Children’s Check , Police Check and First Aid Certificate
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position (i.e., lifting children)

Desirable Criteria

  • Fluency in a second relevant community language as well as English
  • Experience supporting  young people in OOHC
  • Experience with managing and supporting the complex needs of young people 
  • Experience in report writing and documenting  observations
