The Corner Store Network is a Melbourne based nonprofit social enterprise that incorporates an artisanal coffee roastery, food preservery and low-waste cafe.We blend specialty coffee, food preservation, climate action and community to benefit both people and planet.

ABOUT CORNER STORE CAFE

Sitting within our HQ, Corner Store Cafe aims to provide an outstanding experience for customers, staff, and volunteers while delivering on its values of sustainability and supporting the local community.

Our cafe operates on a low-waste, ethical and local model. It’s open Monday to Friday 8am-3pm and Saturday 8am-2pm. Shifts will vary between 6am and 4pm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE

We are looking for someone with a bubbly personality to represent our engaging and friendly customer service approach. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, adaptable, passionate and hard working. If you're an experienced barista/cafe all-rounder, we encourage you to apply.

This is a casual position with the benefits of consistent and regular hours with the opportunity for growth to a permanent full-time managerial role for the right person.

This position is best suited to someone looking for longer-term employment.

Reporting to the Cafe Manager, the barista/cafe all-rounder is responsible for the preparation and serving of hot and cold food and beverages for dine-in or takeaway customers. This includes making specialty coffee beverages, so we are seeking someone who has previous barista experience. The role requires a high standard of customer service, promoting Corner Store Networks values, and maintaining a positive, supportive and vibrant environment.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Provide a professional, friendly and enthusiastic attitude toward customers and customer services at all times
  • Respond promptly to customer enquiries
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and provide professional customer support

FOOD AND BEVERAGE

  • Deliver exceptional specialty coffee service standards and product knowledge
  • Preparing all beverages
  • Fulfilling all-rounder duties such as taking orders, toasting sandwiches, making smoothies, and other utility duties
  • Prepare and serve specialty coffee efficiently and to a high standard, meeting customers' needs
  • Prepare and serve food according to set specifications and customer requirements

OPERATIONS

  • Actively embrace and promote Corner Store’s environmental and sustainability measures
  • Participate in daily operations, including setup and clean down of service areas and all kitchen sections
  • Monitor inventory levels and report to the cafe manager when orders are required
  • Maintain a clean and organised cafe, following all food safety guidelines and regulations
  • Ensure that food is fresh and of high quality

Ensure that Worksafe and OHS practices are met and maintained.

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Communicate and coordinate with colleagues as necessary
  • Consistently seek to engage the local community by promoting Corner Store Network’s values
  • Be able to understand and communicate the story of Corner Store Network to our customers and stakeholders

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide training, support, and guidance as needed to Corner Store Network’s staff and volunteers
  • You may be allocated duties not specifically mentioned in this document but within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTITUDE

  • Minimum 1 year experience in front of house cafe operations, including taking orders, handling money, using the POS system, preparing specialty espresso and filter coffee and hot and cold menu items
  • Highly developed barista skills and minimum of 1 years experience in specialty coffee
  • High-level customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritise, and manage competing tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to follow company policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to pro-actively seek out and complete tasks any time you are not actively serving customers
  • Ability to work at a fast pace in a high-energy environmentAbility to multi-task, prioritise, and manage competing tasks

HIGHLY DESIRABLE

  • A passion, curiosity and enthusiasm for specialty coffee and great food

  • A passion and understanding for sustainability including minimising waste, seasonality and supporting local
  • A working knowledge of Health and Safety responsibilities in a cafe environment
