Executive Administrator - Byron Bay

The position will support the directorial team in systems, strategy and business development and be responsible for a range of administrative duties. Location: This position is initially based in Byron Bay. Remote work within a virtual team environment may be possible once work plans and projects mature.

Tenure: This is a part time 12-month fixed term contract with a three-month probationary trial period

Salary/Wages: Commensurate with skills and experience we are offering a pro rata annual salary of $60,000-$80,000 (approx. $30.00 to $40.00 per hour) plus leave and superannuation loading

Hours per week: 10 hours

Who we are

The Centre for Conservation Geography is a research group established in June 2011 to provide expert technical support and advice to government and non-government stakeholders. Based in Australia, our multi-disciplinary team has headquarters in Byron Bay and key team members working remotely. We currently have projects in Australia, the Southern Ocean and Canada across both marine and terrestrial environments.

The Centre's focus is to support conservation decisions being made across the world's ecoregions. Our core work focus is to apply world's best practice in decision support to planning for
biodiversity conservation. We are also proficient in other areas of scientific research, spatial analysis, biogeography, biodiversity policy, science communication & science advocacy.

Skills required


  1. Advanced communication and organisational skills
  2. Attention to detail
  3. The ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines and strategic priorities
  4. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel
  5. Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and oral and be able to prepare professional documents and reports with a high degree of accuracy.
  6. Highly organised and well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  7. Extensive project management experience and advanced knowledge of project management systems
  8. Strong financial and budgeting skills


  1. Strategic planning and business development skills and/or training
  2. Knowledge of environmental research and advocacy, consulting and/or not for profit sector is a plus

Detailed Job Description


The position will be responsible for coordination of key internal systems and processes, providing executive support to the directorial team in business development and planning, as well as the completion of day-to-day administrative and organisational tasks


Recurring tasks

  1. Scheduling and following up on internal meetings, agendas and action items
  2. Managing staffing requirements of the organisation including recruitment, induction and performance reviews
  3. Assisting with contract management and reporting
  4. Coordinating and supporting business development and strategic planning for directorial team
  5. Coordinating improvements in organisational and project management systems
  6. Managing internal financial reporting, budgeting and financial forecasting in coordination with the organisation’s bookkeeper
  7. Coordinate business planning / strategic planning
  8. Other administrative and management support tasks as the organisational may require

Current time bound project

  • Coordinating a company restructure process: coordination of agreed organisational transition process, and monitoring progress towards agreed aims (Dec 2020- July 2021)
