We enable positive change and growth for people through a range of prevention and early intervention programs including Community Education, Family Services, Legal Services (through commUnity+ Legal), Neighbourhood House and community engagement and development activities. 

About the position

commUnity+ is a community led organisation committed to delivering integrated, holistic services that respond to the complex needs of people experiencing disadvantage across Melbourne’s western suburbs. Social Worker , will be an integral part of the organisation, playing a key role in bringing commUnity+’s Any Front Door strategic initiative to life, supporting a seamless, coordinated experience for clients regardless of their first point of contact with the organisation. Working across programs and alongside practitioners from multiple disciplines—including legal, community development, and other service areas—the role will champion integrated, person-centred practice.

The Social Worker will support vulnerable clients through a  targeted, short term assistance. This includes assessment, service engagement, referrals, advocacy, and coordination of supports to ensure clients receive holistic assistance that addresses both legal and non legal needs.

This role offers a unique opportunity to actively shape and strengthen commUnity+’s multi disciplinary practice, contributing to service design, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the organisation.This position will operate across multiple commUnity+ sites and at times at outreach sites to support service delivery and team collaboration. This role is a part time fixed term role for a fixed term of 12 months, averaging 30.4 hours (4 days) per week.

 Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work or equivalent
  • Membership of, or eligible for membership of, the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Demonstrated experience in providing case management and social work services to people experiencing disadvantage.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients from culturally diverse backgrounds and those experiencing social disadvantage.
  • Ability to manage a large and diverse caseload, prioritise competing deadlines, and work effectively under pressure as part of a busy legal team.
  • Ability to work independently at offsite outreach locations and manage tasks and workloads related to mobile service delivery.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for a range of audiences and purposes, including for clients and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams, with the ability to generate correspondence and manage communications independently.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability and alignment with commUnity+ values.

Experience in multidisciplinary teams, engagement with diverse communities in Melbourne’s West, supporting vulnerable clients, and a commitment to social justice are highly regarded, as is proficiency in a community language.

A current Driver’s License and the ability to travel between offices and outreach locations is essential for this role. Additionally, a Working with Children Check and National Police Check with ongoing validity are mandatory for this role.
