Non-Executive Board Directors (Voluntary Positions)

Consumers of Mental Health WA (Inc.)

Consumers of Mental Health WA (CoMHWA) seeks to appoint up to two Non-Executive Directors. The roles require attending approximately twelve, monthly Board meetings annually, any General Meetings of the Members including the AGM and serving on Board subcommittees as required. Attendance at some functions with stakeholders and participation in Board development workshops is also expected. Successful candidates will be appointed as casual Board Members before standing for election at the AGM held in October 2024.

Required Qualifications

CoMHWA is seeking individuals with proven leadership experience with an understanding of the mental health consumer movement. Those who have had previous experience as a Board Chair or have financial management experience are particularly encouraged to apply, as are people with a lived experience of mental health issues.

It is a requirement of the association that applicants are, or become, an Individual or Associate Individual Member of CoMHWA before being appointed to the Board. A National Police Certificate is mandatory for all Board members, and for successful applicants the cost of this will be reimbursed by CoMHWA.

Research shows that candidates from underrepresented groups (Aboriginal, Torres Strait and Pacific Islander peoples, people of colour, women, non-binary and gender diverse people, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people with disability) often do not apply for roles if they do not meet all the criteria – unlike majority candidates meeting significantly fewer requirements. We strongly encourage you to apply if you are interested, we would love to know how you can amplify our team with your unique experience.

Required Skills or Specialties

CoMHWA is seeking expressions of interest from individuals with skills in any of the following areas:

  • Governance Training, Risk Management and Strategic Planning Experience.
  • Director training such as AICD, Community Directors or Governance Institute.
  • An extensive network in the field of mental health recovery.
  • Financial management expertise
  • Connections with, and understanding of, lived experience consumers
  • Connection with, and understanding of, the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
  • Public Relations / Marketing / Communication / Human resources.

The successful candidate(s) will use their skills and experience to contribute to effective Governance, Strategic Direction and Financial oversight of the organisation.
