Children First Foundation
  • Children First Foundation (Children First) is a Victorian-based charity that believes every child is entitled to excellent medical treatment and holistic care irrespective of where they were born.
  • It is an exciting and opportunistic time to join Children First Foundation.
  • The Board, CEO and team are about to enter a new strategic planning process to treat more children is Australia and overseas.
  • With equitable access to medical care at the forefront of our business, we strive to deliver empowering holistic care for children and long-term change for them and their families.

The Role

Children First’s keystone is the Miracle sMiles program. Through this, we facilitate life-changing and, at times, life-saving surgery in Australia for children from developing countries when the medical care they require is not available in their home country.

Through the Miracle sMiles program, children come to Australia and are often supported at the Kilmore Retreat pre- and post-surgery. Although surgery is predominantly undertaken in Melbourne, it also takes place in Adelaide and Sydney and other states at times.

This active, hands-on role empowers and supports guardians to care for the children, including, at times, arrivals/departures, taking children to appointments in Melbourne. As well as contributing to a safe and caring environment at the Retreat (including assisting with the smooth running of the household, organising support services and completing administrative tasks such as data entry and reporting) and managing volunteers.

Candidates with proven experience in either community services, education or healthcare will be highly valued as well as working with children with complex needs and/or people from non-English cross-cultural backgrounds.

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience working with children and Families.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, specifically in client rapport building and systematic advocacy.
  • Excellent organisation skills and time management skills and the capacity to manage multiple, competing tasks independently.
  • Good written and verbal communication and competent IT skills.
  • A full driving licence and the willingness to drive children/guardians as required by the role (appointments, hospital, airport visits, etc.).
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to work with PPE and follow COVID protocols to continue the safe operation of The Retreat.

Highly desirable:

  • Qualification in Disability, Community Services, or equivalent (Highly desirable).
  • Experience working with children and multicultural communities will be favourably considered.
  • Experience in working with volunteers.

CFF works to be a child safe organisation. CFF’s recruitment and selection procedures reflect our commitment to the safety and protection of children in all our activities. As part of the selection process, candidates must undergo a Working with Children’s Check and Police Check and sign the Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.
