The CFMEU Construction & General Division South Australia is one of the most dynamic unions in the State, committed to defending and extending construction workers' wages and conditions both on- and off-site. The Union is also committed to pursuing policy change at industry and government level which will result in positive outcomes for working people.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are currently seeking a legally qualified industrial officer to join our team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will work alongside a team of dedicated legal/industrial officers, contributing to the advancement of the CFMEU and its members' causes.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

• Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor with a current practicing certificate.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Adobe, and related programs

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for management of own legal caseload within national framework including:

• All aspects of case preparation, management and appearances in industrial tribunals (e.g. Disputes Panels / Fair Work Commission) and courts, including briefing counsel and external law firms;
• Providing legal advice and assistance to CFMEU members, organisers and executive in South Australia regarding all manner of industrial and employment law matters, including workplace disputes, dismissals, wage claims, protected action ballots, industrial action, enterprise agreements and awards, right of entry etc;
• Dealing with regulatory authorities (e.g. Fair Work Ombudsman, Fair Work Commission, SafeWork etc.);
• Interacting and liaising with industrial officers form other CFMEU branches and other unions;
• Researching and writing submissions on issues that affect the construction industry;
• Participating in negotiations of enterprise agreements for the construction industry;
• General legal practitioner duties.
