National Ethnic Disability Alliance (NEDA) is a national Disabled People's Organisation (DPO) that advocates federally for the human rights of people with disability, and their families, from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

NEDA is a founding member of Disabled People’s Organisations Australia (DPOA).

About the Role

The National Ethnic Disability Alliance (NEDA) is looking for a part-time (2 days a week) Finance Officer to support a new project, working with our member organisations across all states and territories.

This role is based in our office in Canberra and is for a period of 12 months. Please note that due to the current pandemic, some of our team members are working from home.

The project is a joint venture between NEDA, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and our member organisations.

We are a small team doing a big job, hence, the Finance Officer's role is pivotal to the achievement of the required outcomes for this new and innovative joint venture.

This dynamic role would suit a well organised, strong project-focused individual who is efficient, has an eye for detail and utilises sound judgement, discretion and initiative.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be dedicated to advancing the rights of all people with disability, from CALD backgrounds (migrants, humanitarian entrants and refugees), and be committed to the promotion of multiculturalism and inclusion
  • Have a strong understanding of human rights frameworks and social justice principles
  • Be able to work independently in a proactive and confident manner with little daily support or direction

Position Responsibilities

As Finance Officer, you will assist in financial management that includes the following:

  • Financial plan/ budget for the new project
  • Payments to Supplier’s staff working on the project
  • Payments to Subcontractors (admin fee if any)
  • Payments to staff members working on the project
  • Setting up a clear and transparent channel between NEDA, the NDIA and Subcontractors
  • Setting aside various budgets for travel, allowance, interpreter services, costs associated with requisite checks, compensation, etc.
  • Apply for requisite Insurances
  • Record all transactions
  • Pay all the necessary taxes, superannuation funds, etc. as per legislative requirements
  • Update and maintain records in accordance with professional standards that can be inspected and audited at any given time

About you

You will have:

  • A proven record of overseeing and managing financial, accounting, CRM and IT functions and processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting software Microsoft Office - we need your expertise as to what platform is best suited to our needs.
  • Experience in preparing accurate and timely financial reports.
  • An understanding of legislative requirements, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • A background in working collaboratively with a small, dynamic team of go-getters.
  • Ideally, you will have a lived experience of disability and/or be form a migrant/refugee background, and/or have professional experience working in the disability sector.
