uni 2 beyond is an innovative and award-winning social inclusion initiative of the Centre for Disability Studies (CDS) for people with intellectual disability who wish to experience university life. Through uni 2 beyond, participants are supported to take part in university life as non-enrolled students. uni 2 beyond supports each participant to make social connections through a mentoring program and to work towards individual learning outcomes.

We have an exciting opportunity for a full time Programme Coordinator to facilitate the program for the coming 12 months as a maternity leave replacement for a current staff member.

The successful candidate will be engaged to undertake a range of activities that will achieve the program's outcomes and objectives.

The key activities of the position are:

  • Organise and facilitate the setup of students into uni 2 beyond program and units of study on campus
  • Coordinate preparatory and day-to-day tasks associated with the operation of uni 2 beyond
  • Recruit, train and support mentors and support uni 2 beyond student and mentor relationships
  • Organise and facilitate events for students, supporters, mentors and Steering Committee
  • Support students to contribute to and benefit from all aspects of university life
  • Network and collaborate with faculty members and other key stakeholders
  • Provide support to faculty members to support student learning, engagement, and relationships with peers
  • Organise and monitor student NDIS Service Agreements
  • Provide support and raise awareness of the uni 2 beyond program on the University of Sydney campus, the corporate sector and the wider community
  • Organise and facilitate the monthly Social Networking Group - a catch up for people with and without disability

The key qualifications, skills and experience required to effectively operate in the role are:

  • An undergraduate qualification in health, social science, disability or related discipline (e.g. education, social work, psychology) is essential
  • Self-starter and self-motivated
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills to build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated coordination and project management skills
  • Minimum 12 months experience working with and supporting people with a disability
  • Experience in community development
  • Proven ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven strong administrative and organisational skills

CDS is a not for profit research and education organisation that is affiliated with the University of Sydney.  Its mission is to create and disseminate knowledge that improves the lives of people with disability. We focus on designing and developing research, teaching and workforce development initiatives and clinical practice that informs disability policy and practice. Our work is guided by the lived experience of people with disability, and we strive to meaningfully engage people with disability in the creation, development and execution of our programs.
