WHO WE ARE

The Conservation Council of WA (CCWA) is Western Australia’s leading not-for-profit environment group, with a history of running strategic, people-powered campaigns that win action on climate change and improved environmental protections.

THE ROLE

The CCWA is recruiting an experienced Campaign Director to join our team. This is a key leadership role within the Western Australian conservation and environment movement. You will work closely with the Executive Director and campaign teams to ensure that CCWA’s nature and climate campaigns are operating at peak performance.

You will bring your highly experienced strategic thinking to each of the campaigns and take a collaborative and hands-on approach to putting excellent strategies in place and ensuring campaign goals are being met.

While working constructively with the teams to deliver on the campaign objectives, you will also be ensuring that the teams are well equipped, resilient and thriving. You will notice gaps and work with the Executive Director to resource and upskill team members, and ensure gaps are filled in the interim.

You will represent CCWA in meetings, at events and in the media, sharing this responsibility with others as appropriate.

You will be highly strategic in your direction, as well as responsive and able to turn attention to arising challenges and opportunities.

You will be committed to working with the Executive Director to establish and maintain a trusting, resilient and collaborative organisational culture.

KEY DETAILS:

  • Hours: Full time including a requirement to work outside of normal work hours at times.
  • Remuneration: $122,000 to $125,000 plus superannuation dependent on skills, experience and previous track record.
  • Location: Based at our Boorloo/Perth office in Western Australia.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversight of strategy and campaign implementation:

  • Assess the effectiveness of existing strategies; put in place processes to update and consolidate strategies; and outline workplans and tactics to implement them.
  • Report on progress and work closely with the Executive Director to ensure that strategies and campaign implementation meet the expectations and requirements of CCWA.
  • Develop trusting and constructive relationships with the managers and monitor the campaign teams’ capacity to effectively ,and efficiently achieve campaign goals.
  • Recognise gaps, challenges and opportunities as they arise and respond constructively.
  • Develop and maintain a holistic perspective on campaigns; support teams to prioritise and focus on strategic objectives; and be responsive to opportunities as they arise.
  • Provide a high level of campaign skills and experience and mentoring of campaign staff.
  • Assist in establishing new programs and campaigns as needed.
  • Develop and assist with program budgets and reporting requirements.
  • Undertake other duties as required by the Executive Director

Media, meetings, functions and events

  • Act as a spokesperson for CCWA in the media, strategically sharing the role to ensure a high media profile, mix of voices and campaign resilience.
  • Work with the communications and media team to develop communication requirements.
  • Engage effectively with decision-makers, members, stakeholders, sponsors and others to represent CCWA and to advance campaign objectives.
  • Represent CCWA at functions and events as required.

Workforce management

  • Develop and review position descriptions within area of management.
  • Volunteers and internship management with managers.
  • Assist with position advertising and recruitment process.
  • Probation and annual review of employee performance.
  • Leave management and planning.
  • Ensuring resources required for service delivery are consistent and standardised.

REPORTING

The position reports to the CCWA Executive Director and the positions that report to this role are the Program Manager Nature, Program Manager Fossil Fuels and Program Manager Better Climate.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in nature conservation, advocacy space and related areas.
  • Commitment to the conservation and environment sector.
  • Passion for protecting and conserving WA nature.
  • Understanding of political decision making.
  • Strong stakeholder and decision-maker engagement and representation skills.
  • Demonstrated intelligent and impactful leadership and campaigning skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in leading and mentoring high performing teams.
  • Skills in media engagement and as a spokesperson.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and proven collaborative leadership style and experience.
