Celebrating over 60 years, Cancer Council NSW is a community funded, community focused not for profit. Cancer Council NSW (CCNSW) is the largest cancer charity in NSW and its point of difference is that it works across all stages of the cancer journey from research right through to support.

Joining our Marketing and Fundraising Division, a team of approximately 80, the Philanthropy Unit plays a vital role in ensuring the future viability and growth of CCNSW by broadening and strengthening our fundraising base through the development of strong and lasting relationships with our major donors, corporate partnerships, trusts and foundations, aligned to our brand.

The Role

Our philanthropy unit has been strategically designed into 2 pillars, summarised externally as Business Development and Account Management teams.

We are looking for a motivating leader, with an innovative approach, to lead the “Account Management” pillar, the Engagement Team, as the Engagement Lead. After 4 fantastic years with the team, the current incumbent is heading back home to NZ, leaving a high performing team of fundraising professionals.

Reporting to the Philanthropy Unit Manager, you will have responsibility for strengthening and sustaining the relationships of existing philanthropic donors by deepening their engagement through strategic, creative, innovative and inspiring events and activities that bring them closer to the cause.

What’s involved?

Philanthropy is a core priority of the growth plan for the next 5 years. This role is responsible for developing the engagement strategy and leading the engagement team to deliver the plan to retain our most high value and significant donors.

Key initial priorities will be:

  • Develop working relationship with Unit Manager and Development Lead to understand plans for the next 6 months in detail.
  • Review existing Engagement Strategy and tweak priorities due to the impacts of COVID-19
  • Assess all existing partnerships and ensure account plans are in place for all – understand any partnership/relationships that are up for renewal and make a plan to reengage
  • Review team priorities in line with Engagement Strategy
  • Build team momentum and culture off the back of 3 months WFH

Key things we are looking for:

Your fundraising experience within the NFP sector will be valued and appreciated - You will also bring experience in:

  • Managing high value relationships
  • Managing dynamic teams
  • Exceptional Influencing ability and negotiation skills
  • Event Management skills, along with the above, will be looked on favourably
  • Developing high quality engagement events and strategies to deepen relationships
  • A target driven environment with a passion for achieving growth targets
  • Highly professional and articulate, with a genuine passion for the organisation
  • Proven ability to engage high value executive and board members and donor/client style relationships in a strategic and planned manner
  • Sound project and budget management skills

CCNSW office location flexibility, however noting regular Woolloomooloo meetings are required along with travel within NSW.
