Consumer Credit Legal Service (CCLS) is a specialist not-for-profit community legal centre delivering free legal assistance in credit, debt and consumer law across Western Australia. We combine frontline legal help with education and advocacy to drive fairer financial systems.

We:

  • Provide free, confidential legal advice on credit, debt and consumer law
  • Represent vulnerable consumers in dispute resolution processes
  • Deliver a statewide Telephone Advice Line, targeted casework and community legal education
  • Work alongside community and sector partners
  • Advocate for systemic change and stronger consumer protections 

The roles

We’re recruiting Solicitors and Senior Solicitors to fill a number of positions across our legal practice, including ongoing roles and a fixed-term parental leave cover position in our Financial Abuse Legal Service (FALS).

Consumer credit and debt law knowledge is the core requirement. Appointment level and remuneration will reflect experience and capability. 

You will

  • Provide trauma-informed legal advice and representation
  • Manage casework including ADR and litigation preparation
  • Contribute to community education and law reform
  • Senior Solicitor: provide supervision and leadership 

You will bring

  • Admission to practise in WA
  • Experience (or ability to develop expertise) in consumer credit/debt law
  • Experience working with vulnerable clients
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Senior Solicitor: minimum 5 years PAE

Hiring criteria (EH)

Must-have

  • Admission to practise as a lawyer in Western Australia
  • Sound knowledge of, or ability to develop expertise in, credit, debt and consumer law
  • Legal right to work in Australia

Nice-to-have / desirable

  • Experience providing trauma-informed legal advice and representation
  • Experience advising clients in vulnerable circumstances
  • Minimum 5 years PAE and supervisory capability (for Senior Solicitor)
  • Experience in law reform, policy development or systemic advocacy
  • Experience delivering community legal education
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to manage casework and competing priorities
  • Experience in financial abuse or working alongside financial counselling/family violence services
  • Willingness to obtain a National Police Clearance prior to commencement
