The role

We currently have a rare opportunity for an experienced communications and marketing people leader. This parental leave role is an attractive opportunity for somebody who is looking to escape corporate life and make the leap to not-for-profit. Working under the direction of the Executive Director, this busy, diverse and creative role comprises three main responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, mentorship and day-to-day direction to the Communications and Engagement Team, ensuring key communications, marketing and evaluation activities are delivered on time, to a high standard and demonstrate return on investment
  • Review, manage and evolve the execution of the communications and engagement strategy, ensuring it aligns with the organisation’s strategic goals, mission and visions, and core values
  • As a member of the leadership team, actively contribute to the review, management and evolution of the organisation’s strategic goals.

The right person will have

  • Proven high level communications and marketing experience across a range of projects, preferably in a not-for-profit environment
  • The ability to develop, execute and review comprehensive communications and marketing plans in line with an organisation’s strategic goals, mission, vision and core values
  • The ability to successfully lead, manage and mentor a team
  • High level project management skills with the ability to be both strategic and operational
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to establish professional strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience creating content for marketing collateral and other types of print, electronic, and social media, as well as proven capacity in PR and media relations
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • The ability to work autonomously with limited direction (with access to Executive Director and/or external marketing consultant support if required) in an environment with time pressures and multiple priorities.

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g. Bachelor Degree with a major in communications and/or marketing)
  • Previous experience (5+ years) in a similar marketing position, preferably within the community services/not-for-profit sector
  • Current Working with Children Check (or equivalent) or willingness to undergo such screening
  • A current Victorian driver’s licence (desirable) as some travel across metro Melbourne and regional Victoria may be required
  • The Communications and Marketing Manager may be required to work flexible hours to attend organisational events and respond to unexpected policy announcements.
