About the role

The Senior Disability Inclusion Advisor will be a core member of CBM Australia’s Inclusion Advisory team.

You will partner with the disability movement to influence organisations, institutions and systems to realise the rights of persons with disabilities. We believe that tailored input, communicated effectively, with the right people at the table can help make equity and inclusion a reality.

We work with a range of national and international development partners and contractors to support disability inclusion in their work, including by providing programming and policy advice, conducting disability related analysis, research, mentoring and capacity development. This includes government and non-government organisations, managing contractors and universities.

Our work is fast-paced, diverse and growing. Working with us, you could be involved in analysing data, facilitating a workshop, or helping an overseas disability rights organisation plan their strategy (sometimes, all in the same week).

About you

We are currently seeking someone with a balance of knowledge, skills and advisory experience to complement our existing team and pool of consultants, to help meet the growing demand for our services.

Our team of Disability Inclusion Advisors is made up of people from a variety of professional backgrounds and life experiences, including allied health professionals, development and humanitarian workers, social workers, human rights lawyers, and former diplomats. We want to work with colleagues who believe their experience and interest aligns with and can help inform our vision and approach.

To be considered for this role, you will have:​

  • Experience in disability inclusion and intersectionality, or the inclusion of other marginalised groups preferably with a background in international development and/or humanitarian action (minimum 10+ years).
  • Higher level qualifications in disability, public health, international development, social sciences or another relevant field.
  • Experience advising government, including an understanding of DFAT priorities and development challenges in the Indo Pacific region (preferred).
  • Exceptional analytical and written and expressive communication skills.
  • A high level of initiative, strategic thinking and the ability to self-manage.
  • A commitment to human rights, equity and inclusion and working in partnership.
  • Background experience in the Global South, especially the Pacific.
  • Applicants with lived experience of disability will be highly regarded.
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of CBM Australia and alignment/comfort with being part of a faith-based organisation.

Additional demonstrated skills and experience in two or more of the following:

  • Advisory experience in gender equality and social inclusion
  • Capacity development, policy analysis, program development, organisational change, strategy development, human rights and/or research and evidence.
  • ​Climate, Disaster risk reduction and/or humanitarian experience
  • Inclusive economic development and social protection policy or programming
