Make a real impact in people’s lives

At Better Health Network (BHN), we believe everyone deserves access to compassionate, person-centred care. As part of our AOD Integrated Services & Counselling team, you’ll play a critical frontline role supporting people navigating alcohol and other drug challenges, mental health complexities, and social disadvantage.

This is more than intake and assessment, it’s an opportunity to be the first supportive connection for people seeking change. You’ll help clients access the right treatment, provide immediate therapeutic support, and work within a progressive, trauma-informed and harm minimisation framework.

About the role

As the first point of contact for clients, families, GPs and service providers, you will:

  • Conduct AOD intake, screening, comprehensive assessment and treatment planning
  • Facilitate referrals into AOD treatment, pharmacotherapy and residential services
  • Provide brief interventions and bridging support while clients await treatment
  • Deliver harm reduction education and support
  • Work with clients experiencing co-occurring mental health and social complexities
  • Build strong partnerships with internal and external services across the sector
  • Contribute to a collaborative, integrated and recovery-oriented team culture

This role suits a skilled clinician who can quickly build rapport, manage risk confidently, and provide compassionate support in fast-paced and often complex environments.

What you’ll bring

You are a thoughtful, adaptable and client-focused practitioner who thrives in collaborative environments. You’ll also bring:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Counselling or Occupational Therapy
  • AASW or AHPRA registration (as applicable)
  • Experience in AOD assessment, treatment planning and risk management
  • Strong understanding of the Victorian AOD treatment system and harm minimisation principles
  • Experience supporting people with co-occurring needs
  • Excellent communication, engagement and organisational skills
  • Commitment to trauma-informed and person-centred practice

Desirable

  • DHHS Accreditation as a Forensic Clinical Drug Assessor
  • Core AOD competencies
  • Knowledge of the mental health service system
  • Why join BHN?
