ORGANISATION
The Garvan Research Foundation (GRF) is the fundraising and marketing arm of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and provides financial support to the Institutes’ medical research programs and strategic priorities.
GRF’s income has grown from $110,000 in its first year to $47 million in 2023 approximately half of the Institute’s total income. The remarkable success of the Foundation is having a catalytic impact on their researchers’ ability to make scientific contributions that will lead to earlier diagnosis, better treatment and prevention or cure of a range of diseases.
ROLE
This newly created role offers the opportunity to build your relationship fundraising experience for a two-person team working to drive growth of the mid-value program. You get to use your exceptional customer service, relationship management and communication skills to provide high level supporter engagement and stewardship across the mid-value and programs.
Reporting to the Mid Value/Fundraising Officer and sitting within the Individual Giving team, you will be engaged in detailed and personalized engagement activities across new and existing donor groups via telephone, written communications and events.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide exceptional Customer Service and Stewardship of donors, gifts in wills prospects
- Via phone, build relationships through active listening and providing information, guiding donors along the journey.
- Conduct follow up engagement phone calls following relevant communications
- Respond to enquiries from supporters in timely manner
- Provide personalized written communications e.g. thank you notes, birthday cards, impact reports, appeals and email communications
- Conduct donor care calls to mid-value supporters, bequest prospects and Partners for the Future
- Respond to all mid value and gifts in wills campaign enquiries in a timely professional and sensitive manner
- Provide best practice maintenance of detailed supporter records and data entry notes, and estate and relevant documents
- Assist with research to identify new prospects
- Conduct email, mail, or phone communications
- Assist with individual mailings and direct mailing campaigns for both mid value and bequest supporters
- Assist with development and delivery of tours and other engagement activities
- Attend and assist at functions such public seminars, tours and external presentations and donor events
YOUR SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
- 1-2 years’ experience in fundraising or marketing (ideal but not essential)
- Open to telemarketing, communications, health, science, nursing, events/hospitality and human resources background
- Bring a warm, confident telephone manner
- Experience in working in a people face or customer service role
- Excellent customer service/interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Sound knowledge of working with databases/CRM’s
- Sound MS Office products knowledge (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Zoom)
- Exceptional attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Strong time management and project management skills
- Excellent listening skills, with patience, tolerance and sensitivity towards donors
- Can work effectively in a small team and independently without supervision while collaborating with broader Foundation
- Sound judgement with ability to speak to organisation’s mission and impact
- Self-starter, motivated with calm, positive and ‘can do’ attitude and strong work ethic
