What is the Men's Court Support Program at CatholicCare NT?

The Men’s Court Support Program in Katherine works with men attending court, to provide them with help including referrals to access support services, programs and Mental Health Support. Working and supporting men who are accessing services for Domestic and Family Violence is an important part of increasing safety for victim-survivors in the community.

More on what you'll be doing as a Case Worker supporting Men...

The Case Worker focuses on providing Social Support to men each day at the Katherine Courthouse, who are victim-survivors of Domestic and Family Violence as well as men who are alleged users of violence. When not at the courts, the Case Worker meets with men, local stakeholders, makes referrals to other support services, manages case notes, risk assessments and conducts regular follow up on recent cases. As our Men's Court Support Case Worker, you will:

  • Report directly to the Regional Manager Katherine
  • Work Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm
  • Provide support services to men in court to help them engage
  • Complete safety planning, risk assessments and case management
  • Liaise with service providers and follow up on referrals
  • Assess needs and refer men for support around parenting, mental health, financial and housing support, advocacy and access to men’s behaviour change programs
  • Create Case Plans for monitoring participant progress and goals
  • Work with men to address challenges and achieve social and emotional wellbeing
  • Collaborate in network activities with key stakeholders in relevant areas
  • Participate in supervision and evaluation to review case management practices
  • Ensure data and case notes are maintained promptly and accurately

Read the role description (attached document below) for more details. These are the key elements we are looking for in our Case Worker, to ensure our clients, our program and you, achieve success.

  • You are an Australian Citizen or have a valid visa with unlimited work rights in Australia and hold a current Driver's Licence.
  • You have a relevant qualification and/or significant experience in a case worker/support role, supporting people with complex needs
  • You have developed a "trauma informed" practice and knowledge of domestic violence, mental health issues, risk and safety planning
  • You have experience working with (mostly) men and building productive and supportive relationships
  • You have excellent personal communication skills, as well as confidence in writing case notes and reports using various online tools including MS Office, intranet and emails.
  • You have experience in creating case plans and supporting clients towards positive outcomes, and social/emotional wellbeing
  • You are culturally competent and can connect with male Aboriginal clients from both urban, regional and remote settings.

If you have resided in an overseas country for 12 months or more in the past 10 years, this position requires you to complete an International Criminal History check (ICHC) prior to your employment commencement date. The outcome of the initial screening check must be satisfactory.

ABOUT KATHERINE - NT

The Northern Territory is one of the most culturally diverse places in the world. Katherine is a town situated on the Katherine River, 230km Southeast of Darwin.
