Our ideal candidate will have experience with faith based NGOs and can deliver high quality program and project design with best practice monitoring, evaluation and learning to maximise disaster management and community resilience.

Caritas Australia is the lead agency for CAN DO, a consortium of eight church agencies – Caritas Australia, Act for Peace, Adventist Relief and Development Agency, Anglican Board of Missions, Anglican Overseas Aid, Australian Lutheran World Service, Transform Aid International and UnitingWorld. The CAN DO Coordination Unit is funded by consortium members, managed and hosted by Caritas Australia, and fulfils a central coordination function for the consortium.

You will thrive as the Design, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Coordinator – CAN DO Consortium if you have:

  • An ability to broker key consortium relationships to promote a culture of respect, integrity and professionalism within the Christian ethos of the consortium.
  • Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience in evaluation, humanitarian or development sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in DMEL with a solid understanding of humanitarian standards and their implementation, preferably in the Pacific.
  • Understanding of and preferably experience with localisation of humanitarian practice and what this means for M&E practice in the sector.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills with demonstrated experience developing successful tenders, narrative and financial reporting, and other internal and external communications.
  • An ability to engage and motivate staff in order to develop the capability and potential of a culturally diverse group of partners, leaders and teams.
  • Experience in undertaking objective critical analysis to draw accurate conclusions that consider contextual, cultural and local partnership issues.
  • Experience coordinating research and learning initiatives across organisations, academic institutions and networks.
  • Availability to deploy to disasters on short notice.

Let’s talk about your next role

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • In consultation with CAN DO members, monitoring alignment with and implementation of CAN DO’s Theory of Change (ToC).
  • Providing technical support to the Design, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (DMEL) frameworks of major (and other discretionary) projects.
  • In consultation with CAN DO members, providing leadership in supporting the alignment of project MEL frameworks with CAN DO’s ToC/strategy.
  • In collaboration with project managers, providing technical DMEL support to projects where invited/requested, with the main goal of strengthening M&E capacity for both members and partners.
  • Leading the development of CAN DO priority evidence bases – contribution of local faith actors to humanitarian response and localisation – and support members and local partners to present on thematic areas in relevant forums and conferences.
  • Providing support to projects to ensure M&E frameworks are in alignment with donor (AHP) requirements.
  • Coordinating the consortium’s annual planning and consolidate reporting of results and impact through an annual report to donors and stakeholders.
  • Developing and/or contributing to the development of high-quality consortium proposals for submission, with a particular focus on design and MEL.
  • Developing effective processes and systems for documenting and promoting best practice and learning.
  • Leading and coordinating a CAN DO evidence and research agenda, pursuing opportunities to collaborate where relevant and supporting presentations at specific academic/sector forums.
