Carers WA is a values driven organisation and the peak body in Western Australia representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia.
A “young carer” is a person aged 8-25 years who helps support a member of their household or family who is experiencing a mental health challenge, disability, long term health condition (including a chronic condition or terminal illness), a substance dependency or who is frail aged.
The YCEEO increases engagement opportunities within education facilities (schools, TAFE and universities), community service providers, associated network groups, and Local Government Associations, to increase awareness and supports for young carers in the community. It is a predominately outreach facing role covering Perth Metro areas, and may include some regional travel.
The role requires the skills and knowledge to collate and present information workshops to a variety of stakeholders including students attending various educational outlets, and expanding the already established Young Carer Peer Support Groups Project throughout Perth Metro to include selected regional areas. In addition, the role involves organising and coordinating a selection of school holiday young carer and / or family activities providing inclusive fun respite options.
The YCEEO role is embedded within a supportive Young Carer Team made up of other allied health skill sets and responsibilities, who adhere to Rights of the Child and Child Safety Standards.
