Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability, mental illness, a chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.
The Peer Facilitator is responsible for organising and facilitating peer support groups in line with the new Carer Gateway In Person Peer Support (IPPS) guidelines. The Carer Gateway is an Australian Government initiative funded by the Department of Social Services providing a mix of free online, telephone and in-person supports, services and advice, for carers in Australia. These services have been specifically designed and tested by carers to help reduce stress and build resilience in the caring role.
The In Person Peer Support program provides an opportunity for carers to meet and share their experiences, learn from one another and develop networks to help support and connect with others in the carer community. The IPPS is based on four service delivery modules of: Connection, Finding Community, Making Meaning of Now and Finding Purpose.
The Peer Facilitator will take an active role in leading the promotion of the IPPS service, developing peer support networks as well as promoting the broader Carer Gateway service. This position is part of a growing team of up to 15-20 staff members who work with and support carers to identify their goals and ensure that an appropriate support plan is prepared, implemented and evaluated regularly. You will be required to work successfully in facilitating and promoting groups whilst also contributing to a collaborative, inclusive team environment and communicate professionally and empathetically with carers. Flexibility in the position will also be required, balancing outreach work with phone support for carers in the community.
Please note: Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for an interview. Successful applicants will need to have a current Working with Children Check (WWC) or have the ability to obtain a WWC and have a National Police Clearance (less than 3 months old) prior to commencement.
Applications must include a covering letter addressing the selection criteria, Curriculum Vitae, and contact details of two professional referees.
Carers WA reserve the right to begin the recruitment process and withdraw the position prior to the close date/time.
