We connect carers with a range of state-wide services including support services, counselling, advisory and carer education to help carers navigate the different challenges they may face. About the Board

The Carers Victoria Board is professional, and skills based. All Directors are firmly committed to the vision, values and purpose of the organisation, while providing a diversity of skills, experience and perspectives. The Board is responsible for the governance and oversight of all aspects of Carers Victoria’s operations and for promoting the strength of the organisation. The Board is seeking to make an immediate additional appointment, as well as to supporting effective succession planning and board refreshment in 2021.

  • Risk & Compliance
  • Legal
  • Accountancy / Finance
  • Business Development & Commercialisation, including negotiation
  • HR/Workplace Relations
  • Government Relations

As a Non-Executive Director, you would be expected to:

  • Aligned to the Vision, Values and Purpose of Carers Victoria
  • Actively contribute to the organisation’s strategic direction
  • Have the passion and time to commit to Board activities
  • Act within applicable laws, the Code of Conduct for Directors and policies
  • Be accountable for the effectiveness, integrity and viability of the organisation
  • Have a developed understanding of governance roles and responsibilities.
  • Be a positive ambassador for carers

What is required

Directors are appointed in accordance with the Carers Victoria Constitution, for a three-year term. The position is voluntary, but expenses are covered.

The following time commitment is expected:

  • An initial investment of time to get to know Carers Victoria
  • At least six board meetings each year, located at the Head Office in Footscray (currently remote meetings). Teleconferencing is available.
  • Membership of at least one Board Committee, which meets at least six times per year
  • Occasional participation in major organisational events.
  • Attendance at workshops, Board training or other special meetings on occasion.

Not essential, but Graduates of the AICD Company Director’s Course will be viewed favourably.

Satisfactory National Police and Working With Children Check are mandatory prerequisite for all appointed Directors.

Nominations for the position of Non-Executive Director are subject to the endorsement of the Nominations Committee and approval of the Board in accordance with Carers Victoria’s constituent rules.
