Carers NSW is the peak body in NSW for carers of all ages and circumstances. We are a not-for-profit organisation connecting and empowering carers and improving their quality of life through support, referrals, capacity building and training.

As the new Carer Gateway Service Provider (CGSP) in Region 4 of NSW (Central Coast, Hunter New England and North Coast) we are excited to be growing our team and are looking for a Senior Counsellor based in Newcastle or Coffs Harbour with availability to travel in the region.

This position is responsible for supporting a small team of Counsellors and providing counselling to carers face to face and via video-conference.

About the Role

Reporting to the Team leader, Intake & Assessment, you will be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria:

  • Qualified counsellor, psychotherapist or social worker for relevant service modes with qualifications recognised within Australia
  • Accredited with a relevant Australian professional association, Australian Counselling Association, Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia or Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Minimum of 3 years demonstrated counselling experience.
  • Trained in Person-Centred (Rogerian) Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in leadership and management of teams.
  • Strong task delegation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, plan, deliver and evaluate group work programs
  • Understanding of and commitment to ageing, disability carer issues.
  • Knowledge of community services and other programs relevant to carers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Mandatory Reporting and Privacy requirements
  • High level organisational skills, including time management
  • Excellent computer and administrative skills, including experience using databases
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team environment
