The Carbon Market Institute (CMI) is a member-based institute championing best practice in carbon markets and climate policy. Its 150+ members include primary producers, carbon project developers, Indigenous organisations, legal, technology and advisory services, insurers, banks, investors, corporate entities and emission intensive industries. Our mission is to accelerate the transition toward a negative emissions, nature positive world.

CMI is seeking to employ a Membership Engagement & Outreach Manager, to join a passionate and dedicated team working with Australian businesses leading the transition to net-zero emission by 2050. The role will be responsible for the management of the CMI membership, driving engagement and retention through a variety of initiatives and will suit a candidate with a minimum of 2 – 3 years professional experience.

The role reports directly to the CMI Director of Events and Membership and will ideally be based in Melbourne although other locations will be considered.

Salary range $90-95k.

Role details

The primary purpose of the Membership Engagement & Outreach Manager role is to promote key CMI membership initiatives as identified in its Membership & Engagement Strategy. The Membership Engagement and Outreach Officer will also manage engagement and assessment of renewing and new member applications in accordance with CMI's Member and Sponsorship Policy with the Executive. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills to be able to build positive relationships with all CMI stakeholders and to manage, grow and retain CMI’s membership. The successful candidate will also support the Events and Communications team to help coordinate and deliver CMI’s annual event calendar.

Key responsibilities

Membership Management and Relationships

  • Assist with activities and requirements for engaging the CMI membership base and its broader stakeholders, field relevant membership related enquiries; and assist with the onboarding and renewals of corporate and associate members.
  • Manage Member and Sponsorship Policy engagement and assessment process with Director Membership and Events and Director Corporate Transition
  • Maximise the operational function of CMI’s CRM database – manage and maintain CMI’s member contacts and broader stakeholder lists, update profiles and activity logs for key contacts, generate lists for mailings and prepare member reports as required by the CMI Executive.
  • Support the engagement, retention, and growth of CMI’s Professional Network Membership and overall delivery of benefits.
  • Support the collation of information for CMI’s member communications and online content updates, including for the Members Portal.

Events

  • Support in the coordination of CMI’s Working Groups and Taskforces.
  • Support in the coordination and delivery of CMI’s annual Australasian Emissions Reduction Summit and other key events including the Carbon Farming Industry Forum, Singapore Carbon Market & Investor Forum, webinars and other public engagements.

Planning and Operations

  • Collaborate with the CMI Team to implement the organisation’s ‘Accelerating Climate Action’ 2025 strategic plan and vision.
  • Support the CMI Team in presenting CMI’s mission, programs, and services in a consistent, strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders.
  • Actively advocate for the organisation, its beliefs, and its programmatic efforts.
