The Strategy and Support Division places people at the centre of everything we do. We work directly with clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and people impacted by cancer to reduce inequities and improve outcomes for all Victorians, now and into the future. As part of the Strategy and Support Division, you will be part of the Supportive Care Team which operates under the Cancer Information and Support Services Unit.

The Cancer Connect program provides telephone-based peer support to Victorians affected by cancer. It is facilitated by trained volunteers who utilise their lived experience to support others going through a similar cancer experience. This program aims to compliment other supportive care services provided to patients and carers across Victoria.

About your opportunity

We are seeking a part-time Peer Support Programs Lead to join the Strategy and Support Division. Reporting to the Manager – Supportive Care Programs, your role is to:

  • Lead the Cancer Connect peer support program, ensuring the achievement of program outcomes, adherence to organisational policies and procedures and ongoing data monitoring and reporting
  • Drive the development and maintenance of efficient systems for matching, training, recruiting and supporting program volunteers.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of program development strategies in collaboration with key internal stakeholders, to ensure program offerings are dynamic, agile and able to meet current needs of people affected by cancer.
  • Lead quality volunteer engagement across the Unit to ensure program effectiveness

All about you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a relevant tertiary qualification in a health-related discipline or another relevant field Is experienced in the development and delivery of peer support or health programs, including experience working with and training volunteers.
  • Has advanced communication skills, interpersonal skills and active listening skills, including the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Has proven organisational and time management skills with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a highly functioning team. 
  • Is computer literate, and confident in use of MS Office suite use with customer data-base management experience

  • Base salary of $86,154 to $95,158 p.a. (dependant on experience, pro rata for part time) plus 11.5% superannuation
