KEY FUNCTIONS

This role leads on organising our members within the Network. It is responsible for ensuring the Network functions well, and meets the expectations of members, including managing events for our members to engage and plan together. The role has a particular focus on our small and grassroots members, including supporting their work by managing our innovative Small Grants Program.

PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Network Organising (40%)

  • Maintain an overview of CANA’s membership. Coordinate the Network Support Team to ensure that the Network is meeting members’ needs and identifying opportunities and risks.
  • Support, mentor, and connect leaders in the network to further CANA strategic priorities.
  • Convene member groups as appropriate.
  • Lead on outreach to potential members. Including by convening the membership, outreach and stakeholder working group of Network Support Team and Board members; and by directly undertaking outreach.
  • Engage with grassroots members through working group meetings and Slack channels.

Manage the Small Grants Program (20%)

  • Project manage the Program including supporting a decision-making Committee, promoting the Program, engaging with applicants and grantees, evaluating applications and managing grant contracts and acquittals. Create material to promote the Program, write progress reports and support on fundraising.

CANA Conference and CANA 20 year Anniversary (30%)

  • Project lead for CANA's member conference and 20th Anniversary, creating opportunities for members to engage and collaborate. Planning for both has begun, and they are at a stage where your input will shape to provide maximum benefit to the Network.
  • Including project management, objectives, communications, engagement, fundraising, turn out, logistics, facilitation & delivery.

Other duties (10%)

ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA

  • At least three years’ experience in a relevant role.
  • A demonstrated understanding and experience of organising.
  • Experience with helping community-based organisations work together.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the climate movement.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strong team player with effective interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.

DESIRABLE SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Knowledge of fundraising and supporter care programs.
  • Event management experience.
  • Relevant qualifications will be highly regarded.

POSITION DETAILS

  • Reports to: Strategist
  • Location: We prefer that you work from our Sydney office but if you are an exceptional candidate with a track record of working remotely we will consider a proposal to work from a different capital city, or major regional centre.
  • Salary: $70-80,000 plus super, depending upon experience
  • Status: Full time (37.5 hour week), 0.8FTE (4 days) will be considered for the right candidate
  • Permanent position, dependent on ongoing funding
  • Hours: This role requires some work outside of normal hours. Time off in lieu of overtime (TOIL) will be provided.
  • Other: CANA has a BYO devices (laptop, phone) policy. A monthly amount is reimbursed for expenses.

We operate behind the scenes to drive strategic thinking and campaign collaboration between members including Australia Youth Climate Coalition, Greenpeace, The Wilderness Society, the Australian Conservation Foundation, WWF, Oxfam, 350.org, Solar Citizens, health and faith networks, trade unions and think tanks and many more. We are a small team located in Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane.
