Shape climate and health Policy and action

The policy and advocacy manager is a key leadership role within the Climate and Health Alliance.

You'll have a passion for action on climate change and thrive in a complex policy environment. In this role, you’ll lead CAHA’s engagement with policymakers, build capacity among health institutions and health professionals for leadership on climate change and health, and collaborate with our allies on aligned strategy. You will take the lead on engagement with all levels of decision-makers to influence and shape public policy. A natural collaborator, you’ll also be a capable thought leader and adept at relationship building.

Your Role

You will lead work to influence decisions and shape public policy at all levels of Government and internationally to deliver effective, evidence-based action on climate and health.

The role includes championing collaborative action through:

  • developing and promoting strategic climate-health policy initiatives to influence the policy of political parties and governments on climate change and health
  • producing submissions and policy briefs on topics relevant to health and climate change to state / territory and federal government inquiries and agencies
  • building and maintain relationships with MPs, political parties, government and bureaucracy for advocacy and policy development
  • developing written advocacy material for a range of audiences, including CAHA members, supporters, policymakers, and parliamentarians
  • leading and coordinating events and engagement of health professionals and health organisations to socialise and promote CAHA’s policy agenda
  • providing material and ideas for use in media and communications, including content for website and social media

CAHA is a small and flexible organisation, and so you will also need to take on a variety of other tasks from time to time.

Your skills and experience

With several years’ experience in health or climate policy advocacy, you’ll demonstrate an ability to work independently and accurately, while collaborating effectively with others.

You’ll enjoy working with and supporting other team members, learning from them while sharing your expertise. You’ll also be able to offer leadership, build relationships and foster skills in other staff and volunteers.

You are an excellent communicator, both in writing and orally. As such, you’ll be at ease with designing and delivering public engagement as well as educational and capacity building initiatives, including workshops and seminars. Drawing on a strong evidence base, you’ll also use your writing skills to craft succinct accurate and influential policy papers and submissions.

CAHA is an alliance of organisations and so you’ll need to be able to engage with a diverse range of health organisations, professional bodies and community groups, as well as individual stakeholders. Your excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to work effectively with a wide range of government, community and private sector parties.
