Position Purpose

To provide case management support to Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander people experiencing domestic and family violence who are referred by police. This is an identified position open to First Nations peoples.

Classification

Level 5 Social Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010. Subject to funding. Six months’ probationary period applies.

Employment Status

Up to full time position - 58 to 72.5 hours per fortnight. Salary Packaging available.

Work Location

Primarily based in the Caboolture Office. Will be required to provide services at other CADA designated locations and police stations within the Moreton Bay region.

Accountability

Position reports to the Manager PRADO.

Hours of Work

CADA’s hours of operation are 8 am to 6 pm.

ABOUT US

The Centre Against Domestic Abuse (CADA) is a community organisation funded by the Queensland Government to respond to adults and children affected by domestic and family violence. We provide counselling and crisis/court support, referrals, risk assessment and safety planning and high risk integrated service responses, as well as trauma informed recovery focused support for women. CADA is active in advocacy, community education and early intervention and prevention strategies work towards a future free from domestic and family violence, in partnership with government and organisations working in the sector.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an identified position open only to Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This position provides early intervention, safety skills, planning and information for Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander families across Moreton Bay following Queensland Police Service (QPS) response to domestic and family violence. The role supports women and people who have experienced domestic and family violence. The role supports predominantly Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander persons. The role will also support other PRADO Practitioner referrals across the police stations as needed.

The First Nations PRADO Practitioner may refer high risk domestic violence clients to the High Risk Team (HRT). The First Nations PRADO Practitioner will use their own unique cultural lens to collaboratively case manage and provide feedback to increase safety for First Nations clients within the Integrated Service System.

QUALIFICATION

Working towards or possession of tertiary qualification in a relevant field plus a minimum of 3 years work experience in a similar position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish contact with clients referred by the Queensland Police Service (QPS)
  • Ascertain contributing factors and prioritise client needs
  • Conduct thorough risk assessment
  • Conduct safety assessment and safety planning
  • Provide information and referrals for relevant services
  • Identify potential barriers to client engagement
  • Liaise between linked services and the client
  • Make follow up contact with client when required
  • Provide additional services on a needs basis
  • Support and validate clients experiences of domestic and family violence
  • Maintain an awareness of all relevant services provided by the community sector
  • Work effectively with diverse communities within CADA catchment area to ensure that their cultural needs are met
  • Support other PRADO Practitioners across the police stations with referrals as needed
  • Liaise with CADA, police, child safety, corrections and the community sector in relation to improving service delivery
  • Support and mentor new employees and assist manager with delegated tasks including supervision of colleagues as required

ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Comply with CADA policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate client records and other data as required by CADA and funding body
  • Work cooperatively and supportively as a member of a team to achieve the smooth and effective functioning of the service and the achievement of organisational and client goals
  • Assist with the development of appropriate written resources in relation to domestic and family violence issues and prevention
  • Participate in CADA events, staff supervision, staff meetings and team building activities
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of community education and training to raise awareness of domestic and family violence issues and to increase the capacity of the community and other workers in the region in responding to domestic and family violence

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Tertiary qualifications (or working towards) relevant to the position and significant demonstrated experience in early intervention and primary prevention of domestic and family violence. This will include a working knowledge and understanding of the Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and the dynamics of domestic and family violence.
  • Demonstrated experience case managing high risk clients and using interpersonal skills to conduct safety plans, referrals and meet the immediate risks and needs of the client and experience working with Queensland Police Services (QPS).
  • Ability to work in a demanding multi-disciplinary team environment to address the needs of women and families experiencing domestic and family violence, demonstrating a professional and reliable manner with minimal supervision. Proactively manage high workload to a quality standard.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the complex impacts and outcomes First Nations families face after experiencing or witnessing DFV. Demonstrated experience of professional practice in the crisis space.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal, conflict resolution and communication skills (verbal and written) including computer literacy (MS Office Suite, Desktop).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander peoples, bringing a comprehensive knowledge and understanding the issues which impact diverse communities in contemporary society.

REQUIREMENTS

  • National Criminal History Check, police check and police vetting
  • Undergo QPS protocol training
  • Must inform CADA of any domestic and family violence applications or orders naming them as respondent (current or in the past)
  • Blue card for Working with Children (Queensland)
  • Current Queensland Driver’s Licence
  • High level Computer literacy (particularly with Excel)
  • Three (3) work related referees. One of these referees must be a First Nations community member who can directly refer to your ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

COVID-19 VACCINATION POLICY

All CADA employees working in police stations are required to have received two doses and a booster of a TGA approved COVID-19 vaccine OR have an approved medical contraindication certificate. You will be required to show proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status prior to securing this role.
