Burrun Dalai Aboriginal Corporation provides foster care to Aboriginal children & young people of the Macleay, Nambucca, Hastings, Manning, Armidale and Tamworth Regions. It is one of the largest Aboriginal agencies in NSW.
We are now recruiting for a OOHC Casework Manager to join our multidisciplinary team and work within a supportive community focused organisation.
This opportunity would suit someone with previous experience as a Casework Manager or Caseworker wishing to further their career and/or background of Child Protection and is looking for a full-time role in Taree, NSW.
Principal Duties include but not limited to:
- Assessment of child and family
- Assess appropriate foster care placements.
- Provide services to Aboriginal child/young person, family, and significant others where appropriate.
- Development and monitoring of implementation of case management plan involving agreed goals.
- Supervise OOHC Caseworkers to maintain high level case management of children/young people and foster carers.
- Submit monthly statistical data to the Executive Officer as requested.
- Provide regular ongoing support/supervision to Caseworkers.
- Advocate for child/children and families within the service where applicable.
- Participate in training of prospective foster carers and ongoing training of approved foster carers.
- Monitor information entry and perform regular audits on client files.

- Services to Aboriginal child/children, young people/persons, family, and significant others where appropriate
- Development and implementation of case management plan, involving agreed goals
- Monitor and report on outcomes
- Participate in On Call Work as directed by Executive Officers.
- Participate in joint meetings involving parents and Family and Community Services, and other key workers as appropriate
Criteria
Essential
- Aboriginality
- Working knowledge of the Child and Young Persons Care and Protection Act (1988), with knowledge of out of homecare legislation(s) and practice and a proven willingness to keep up to date.
- Working knowledge of issues involving Out of Home Care for Aboriginal children and young people, families, and foster carers in the Office Location CSC Areas, and in particular the unique difficulties/issues that arise for Aboriginal children, young people, and foster carers.
- Relevant Qualifications and/or extensive demonstrated experience in Aboriginal welfare and child protection areas experience in case management.
- Excellent interpersonal, computer and written communication skills and demonstrated high level assessment and report writing skills.
- Demonstrated experience in supervision and management of small teams with proven skills in conflict and negotiation and the ability to resolve complex and critical issues.
- Proven ability to liaise with relevant government and non-government professionals, community groups, services and agencies in the provision and development of services.
- Self-motivated with proven effective time management and organisational skills.
- Availability to participate in On Call Services as required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of Workplace Health and Safety, Equal Opportunity, Ethical practices, and continuous quality improvement.
- Hold a Current NSW Driver License and ability to travel to perform the duties.
Desirable
- Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
- Diploma of Child, Youth & Family Intervention.
- Previous experience working in an Aboriginal Corporation.
- Understanding of and/or experience in utilising and implementing Forster Carer Training Package and Foster Carer Assessment tools.
