The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for a Financial Accountant to join the Finance team at Burnet!

In this role, you will play a key part in financial reporting, compliance, internal controls, and strategic financial support across the Institute. You will contribute to the preparation of audited financial statements, provide financial insights to support decision-making, and identify opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting systems.

You will also:

  • Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements and reports in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB).
  • Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial processes, including balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Oversee the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Develop and generate financial reports from the ERP system and identify opportunities for process improvements and automation.
  • Provide financial analysis, modelling, and technical accounting advice to support business planning and executive decision-making.

Let's talk about you

The following criteria are essential requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with a professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or CIMA.
  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in financial accounting, ideally within the research, not-for-profit, or higher education sectors.
  • Strong technical accounting expertise, including knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and experience preparing audited financial statements.
  • Experience managing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions and maintaining robust financial controls.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting systems, such as TechnologyOne or similar ERP platforms.

The following are desirable but not essential:

  • Ability to communicate complex financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
